    This Winter Term Course will examine one of the most significant historical events of all time, the crucifixion of Jesus. Course participants will study the individuals involved in the events leading up to and the crucifixion (Jesus, the disciples, the Sadducees, the Pharisees, Pontious Pilate, and others) as well as the impact their individual and collective leadership styles had on the evolution of the crucifixion. The course will meet daily for the duration of Winter Term. Academic sessions will be convened daily to meet the requisite contact time. Students will also be involved in a community service project to gain a better understanding of the concept of servant leadership. Prerequisite: None. Extra Fees: None. Instructor: Lori Neff.     This class will use the leadership experiences of both the instructor and students as a basis for discussion and learning. The course will include an overview of leadership theory and practice. Topics to be covered include power, decision-making, vision, and conflict management. Special emphasis will be given to actual application of leadership concepts and "real world" examples will be incorporated throughout the course.     Course Description: Ever wonder what those "Think Globally, Act Locally" bumper stickers really mean? In this course students will study various activist groups and their efforts to create social change at both global and local levels.     Course Description: This course will explore various aspects of marriage and family. The course will begin with the study of leadership, including leaderships roles, vision, power, decision making, and conflict resolution. We will then examine several different theories on developing a strong marriage and family. We will also examine various conflicts in marriage and consider methods of conflict resolution. Throughout the course we will be reflecting back to our study of leadership and discussing the importance of leadership in family and marriage. Pre-requisites: None. Additional Fees: None.     Course Description: Since its debut in the late 1960s, all of the Star Trek series have presented commentary on American society by raising cultural and ethical questions within the genre of science fiction. This course will examine the phenomena of Star Trek, its place in American pop culture, and explore questions of ethics and leadership theory using examples drawn from each of the five series including the Original Series, the Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager, and Enterprise.     In this course, we will travel to Paris and to Provence, France. In the process, we will discover and learn about a new land and its people, but we will also discover and learn about our own land, our own people, and, ultimately, about ourselves. In particular, we will focus upon the theme of belonging to a place. What does it mean to belong to a place? What constitutes this feeling of belonging? From where and from what does this feeling stem? Can one belong in a foreign place, and what constitutes "foreignness"? Satisfies International Exploratory requirement Travel Course Costs: $2,300

    A three week educational tour of the two main islands of New Zealand to study the history, aboriginal culture, biodiversity, geology, and geography of the country. Travel in country will be by bus in order to study and appreciate first hand the magnificent scenery of the mountains, glaciers, geothermal areas, fiords, and rain forests. Travel Cost: $3800 Satisfies intercultural OR international exploratory requirement.

    Research in Brazil will teach students to do fieldwork. Students will learn to observe, interview, and photograph strangers as well as record, analyze, and report findings. Class memebers will also study five distinct sites in Brazil: Salvador da Bahia (once one the world's worst slave ports), the Amazon Rainforest, the Pantanal (world's largest inland swamp), the Iguacu Falls, and of course, Rio de Janeiro. On most days, the entire class will go on fieldtrips in the morning, foursomes will follow their own agendas in the afternoon (including sitting on world famous beaches), collective review of photos and field notes will occur after dinner, and optional trips to nightspots at nights.     TRAVEL COURSE: Major events and cultural conditions related to Irish history, rebellion and literature will be studied. Required readings will be supplemented by films, broadcasts, songs, and literary gems such as poems and short stories. The course provides insights into both the Irish abroad and here in the United States, as well as insights into the uneasy alliance between Ireland and Mother England. Counts as intercultural credit. Satisfies international exploratory requirement. Travel Fees: Course will satisfy intercultural or international exploratory requirement.
