This course is designed to prepare students for jobs as a machine transcriptionist in diverse settings. A textbook/tape resource package is used to teach language skills, vocabulary, formatting and transcription. Students must integrate keyboarding and equipment skills, such as the computer and transcriber, to produce mailable copy. (Usually offered Spring semester.) Prerequisites: OFT 121 and OFT 159.

This course will provide an introduction to the field of safety management and industrial hygiene. Typical health and safety responsibilities are discussed, such as generating and updating a safety program or emergency action plans, record keeping education and identification of potential risk to health or safety of employees. Interaction of the safety professional with employees and management will be discussed. (Usually offered Fall semester.) Prerequisites: AAC 042, ENG 099, MAT 005 or waiver through testing.

Students at the successful completion of this course will know the OSHA general industry and construction standards, found in the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) 1910 and 1926. They will be aware of the interrelationship of other governmental agencies and professional organizations that contribute to the occupational safety and health of employees. Students will be able to find and correctly intrepret OSHA regulations using supporting docummentation, and determine the responsibilities of both employers and employees. Record keeping responsibilities will be discussed in detail. Students will also write a program for a performance-based standard that can be used by a company in a practical, economical, and compliant manor. (Usually offered Spring semester.) Prerequisites: AAC 042, ENG 099, MAT 005 or waiver through testing.

This course is designed to provide the student familiarity with the methodology and equipment used to analyze a wide variety of environmental hazards in teh workplace such as air, radiological noise to hazardous chemicals, and chemicals. Equipment sensitivity, instrument calibration, and operation parameters are discussed. Appropriate safety and protective equipment needed when acquirieng samples and making measurements using a variety of recording data, statistical data treatment,and report generation will be addressed. Topics will include air and water sampling, oxygen level analysis, combustible gas analysis, noise analysis and analysis of acids, alkalis and oxiders. (Usually offered Fall semester.) Hazards in the workplace are a major concern today. Businesses and industries must comply with mandates from many regulatory agencies. This course will emphasize interaction with external regulatory agencies, developing an emergency action plan, identifying hazards, deficiencies and rectification of both, accident prevention, incident and accident investigation, safety equipment, worker training and education selection and planned periodic inspection of equipment and emergency equipment. (Usually offered Fall semester.) Prerequisisites: AAC 042, ENG 099, MAT 005 or waiver through testing.

This course will focus on developing safety and health programs and policies, training employees, record keeping and interacting and networking with management, labor and regulatory agencies. Through case studies and laboratory experiences in local industries, students will perform an inspection, document results, provide information to management, labor and regulatory agencies and make appropriate recommendations. (Usually offered Spring semester.) Prerequisites: OSH 101, OSH 102, and OSH 201.

Two 75-minute lecture classes will introduce students to basic equipment and product terminology and their uses. Discussions of the science of leavening agents, chemical reactions and ingredient combinations will be the focus. (Usually offered Fall and Spring semesters.)
