    The Pacific Century - Modern Asia Pre: Co: Elect:OP, LA, SOC,SCI, HUM This telecourse explores the social, historical, cultural, and economic issues connected to the emergence of modern Asia, the United States, and the Pacific Basins. Instead of regular classroom meetings, students view TV programs on Channel 2 or 44 and complete textbook and study guide assignments at home. Students on any campus can enroll in this course because there are no classroom meetings. Fulfills open, liberal arts, social science, and humanities electives.

    Crossing Cultures: Study and Travel in Senegal West Africa Pre: Co: Elect:OP, LA, SOC SCI Introduces the student to the culture of West Africa through three (3) day predeparture/postreturn training and structured field trip to West Africa. Group training which will include analysis of cross cultural issues, team building, debriefing will utilize role play, case study, multimedia approaches. In Africa, students will visit families, interview government officials, participate in selected community service projects. Students will incorporate material from assigned readings/films, daily journal, and lecture notes in a major paper. Fulfills open, liberal arts, social science electives.

They will learn to use these conversations as an opportunity for personal growth and social progress.     Global Conflicts and Human Behavior Pre: Communications and Mathematic Proficiencies Co: Elect: Open, Liberal Arts Using resources from the disciplines of literature and psychology, this course will examine the Holocaust as the prime example of ethnic and racial hatred in the 20th century. A case study approach will be used to make connections between the Holocaust and the escalating incidents of ethnic/racial/religious aggression and intolerance taking place currently in the United States and in the international arena. Attention will be given to such trouble spots as South Africa, Guatemala, and Bosnia. Fulfills open, liberal arts, social science, and humanities electives.

    Reiki 1 - Traditional Usui Method - NOW IDS140 Pre:Communications Proficiency Co: Elect:OPEN, LIBERAL ARTS, HUMANITIES Reiki (pronounced Ray-Key) is a system by which energy is transferred through the hands. Energy flows through the practitioner to another person. Its gentle hand patterns are designed to bring the body to a state of relaxation and balance, enhancing the body's natural ability to heal itself. No special skills or belief systems are necessary. Through the assistance of the instructor students will gain the ability to transmit Reiki's healing energy. Students will learn the history of Reiki, to use the hands to scan for general vitality, scan the energy centers (chakras), and learn the relationship of emotions to the energy centers. Fulfills open, liberal arts, and humanities electives.

Students examine 11 regions of the world and their interconnections in terms of their physical, political, historical, economic, and cultural features.     Facing Disasters: Mass Casualty and High-Impact Incidents Pre: Communications Proficiency Co: This course is designed to prepare students to understand the complexity and multi-faceted approach in responding to mass casualty and high-impact incidents such as Hurricane Katrina and 9/11, addressing the questions raised regarding the effectiveness of the response. Students will gain valuable tools enabling them to provide specific crisis intervention services. Fulfills open, behavioral science, humanities, liberal arts, and social science electives.
