    Prepares the student to take the Memphis/Shelby County First-Class or Third-Class Refrigeration proficiency (Contractor's) and the State HVAC Refrigeration Contractor (CMC-C) Licensure exams. Reviews requirements for both the First-Class and the Third Class Licenses. Sample (not actual) test questions will cover general HARV questions and questions on heat gain and loss; refrigeration safety; code compliance; sheet metal; piping and insulation; duct sizing; safety and fire prevention; and HARVmaintenance and controls.     This is a comprehensive and practical approach to all gas fired equipment, its design, application and performance. This course is intended to help students involved with installation, maintenance and service of gas heating equipment and those wanting to prepare for the Memphis/Shelby County Master Gas Fitters license exam. The course includes both classroom instruction and practical laboratory demonstrations. Local and international codes that regulate gas-fired equipment will be reviewed in detail. There are no prerequisites for taking this course, but field experience is required for students scheduling to take the code exam. The local code office should be contacted for these requirements. This course covers the design, function, inspection, testing, maintenance and repair of reduced-pressure backflow prevention devices and prepares the student for the certification test.     This course consists of a required one-day class with both lecture and laboratory practice for the renewal of backflow prevention licensing. The course meets the requirements for recertification for licensed backflow testers for the states of Tennessee and Arkansas. Following the class, performance tests for the reduced pressure backflow assembly as well as the double check valve assembly will be administered and proctored by personnel from Tennessee Environment and Conservation. Students who pass the performance test will be recertified for maintaining and testing backflow prevention assemblies for the state of Tennessee. The appropriate written test will be administered for students seeking licensing recertification with the state of Arkansas. Prerequisite: The student must be certified by the State of Tennessee or Arkansas to test and maintain backflow prevention assemblies. This course is modeled on MLG&W's Basic Gas Course for Customer Service Personnel.     This hands-on course teaches the student how to maintain, troubleshoot, rebuild and repair industrial pumps and AC motors. Actual tear-down and rebuilding of centrifugal and positive displacement pumps and single-and-three-phase AC motors will be performed by each student. Coupling alignment and the proper methods for removing and installing bearings, mechanical seals, and packing will be taught in detail along with many mechanical maintenance "Tricks of the trade." Safety precautions are stressed thoughout the course.
