This course deals with the epidemiology, etiology, clinical features, course, treatment and prognosis of diseases and disabilities commonly treated by occupational therapists. It also deals with the effect these conditions have on meaningful occupation and the personal, family, social and working life of the patient. This is a modified problem-based course taught in lecture, laboratory and case study format. (Two lecture hours and four laboratory hours per week.) Prerequisites: OCC 3301 and PHT 3501.

This course deals with models of practice and frames of reference used in occupational therapy. It also focuses on use of these frames of reference and practice model in evaluating and treating a variety of patient conditions. This is a modified problem-based course. (Two lecture hours and four laboratory hours per week.) Prerequisite: OCC 3301.

This course is designed to assist the student in differentiating between pediatric occupational therapy evaluations, assessments, and screening instruments. Standardized and non-standardized tests, norm referenced criteria, and criteria referenced tests are presented. The occupational therapy process, along with the role of the occupational therapist in the pediatrics will be presented. Prerequisites: OCC 3305 and OCC 3502.

This course assists the student in understanding the musculoskeletal system and other anatomical systems as they relate to human motor performance. The relationship between biomechanics, basic principles of kinesiology, and function, as well as dysfunction, are analyzed. Prerequisite: Admission into the professional course of study.

This course concentrates on teaching the functional anatomy and physiology of the human nervous system, relates neurological function to occupational performance, provides strategies for remediation of dysfunction, and effects of therapy on recovery of function after brain damage or disease. Prerequisite: OCC 3501.

1.00 Credits
This course analyses the Level II fieldwork experiences. Students will have the opportunity to identify strengths and weaknesses and develop strategies for professional growth. Issues related to licensure, the national certification exam, job application, career advancement, continuing education, graduate school, and continued involvement in professional organizations will be presented. (Two laboratory hours per week.) Prerequisite: Successful completion of all other courses in the professional curriculum.

The students will spend 40 hours for one week in a clinic/hospital setting. This short exposure to a full-time clinical setting is designed to permit the student to engage in patient evaluation and treatment while under the direct supervision of an occupational therapist and to develop a better understanding of the roles of other health care providers. (40 clinical/laboratory hours for one week.) Prerequisite: Successful completion of all junior level courses in the OT curriculum.

2.00 Credits
This course includes a review of anatomical and mechanical concepts in reference to orthotics and prosthetics. Precautions and contraindications of orthotics and prosthetics will be explained along with the rationale for using an orthotic or prosthetic device. Students will learn to assess need for an orthotic or prosthetic device and will fabricate static and dynamic splints. (One lecture and three laboratory hours per week.) Prerequisite: OCC 3301, OCC 3305 and PHT 3501.

This course presents a variety of assistive technologies and environmental adaptations and provides information on how to assess the need for assistive technologies and environmental adaptations. The course also provides opportunities for constructing and/or modifying assistive technologies and environmental adaptation. It also identifies federal policies regarding people with disabilities, identifies sources and issues of funding, and justifies the need for assistive technologies and environmental adaptation via documentation. (One lecture and three laboratory hours per week.) Prerequisites: OCC 3305 and OCC 3401.

3.00 Credits
This course examines management styles as they relate to productivity levels and current health care trends as they relate to staffing and productivity levels. It also focuses on conflict resolution, planning and operating an OT clinic, and quality assurance. This is a problem-based course. (One lecture hour and four laboratory hours per week.) Prerequisite: Successful completion of all junior level courses.
