    This course covers the properties and preparation of radiopharmaceuticals used in Nuclear Medicine.     This course is a continuation of NMT 252 covering additional procedures performed in Nuclear Medicine departments. Clinical indications for performing each procedure will be discussed with emphasis on both the physiological and technical aspects of the examination. Normal and abnormal structure and function will again be emphasized through the presentation of case studies. Imaging studies such as CT and MRI will also be used for correlation.     This course introduces the student to the more sophisticated aspects of Nuclear Medicine imaging. Computer processing techniques used for data manipulation as well as tomographic and 3-D image reconstruction will be addressed. Calibration techniques and quality assurance procedures will be covered in depth.     5 5 This practicum course involves three days per week of clinical experience in affiliate hospitals, clinics, and/or imaging centers. Students will demonstrate competency in performing additional nuclear medicine procedures including analysis of counting statistics, image quality, and maintenance of quality assurance standards.     This 12-week summer course looks at recent trends, research, and technological advances in nuclear medicine. It covers selected in-vitro and non-imaging in-vivo procedures with emphasis on radioassay techniques. The course also examines image production and data acquisition methods associated with positron emission tomography (PET). Use of radionuclides in therapy will also be addressed.     This summer practicum course involves four days per week of clinical experience in affiliate hospitals, clinics, and/or imaging centers. This final rotation provides students with the opportunity to further refine their skills and complete all clinical competency requirements.     5 3 6.5 This course prepares individuals to work under the supervision of health care professionals in performing care and services for adult clients with chronic conditions and disabilities, Alzheimer's, and related disorders. Course work emphasizes normal anatomy, developmental tasks, nutrition, asepsis, and body mechanics. The selected universal needs of hygiene, activity/rest, safety, and elimination are included as a basis for giving care. Learning experiences are provided in the classroom and autotutorial lab, nursing campus lab, and clinical setting. In accordance with the Health Care Worker Background Check of 1996, a Criminal Background Check will be initiated within the first ten days of the class. A minimum grade of "C" is required to pass the course. Students who successfully complete the class will be eligible to take the Nurse Aide Training Competency Evaluation Program written examination. Placement on the Illinois Nurse Aide Registry is contingent upon successful completion of the competency test and a clear background check, which is required for employment typically found in long-term care facilities.     1.5 3 2.5 This course is an introductory course focusing on the principles and skills essential to all levels of nursing practice. The selected universal needs of hygiene, activity/rest, safety, and elimination are included. Developmental needs of the older adult are discussed. Learning experiences are provided in the classroom and auto-tutorial lab, nursing campus lab, and clinical settings. This course is not required for the Certified Nursing Assistant. Satisfactory (S) performance in clinical and the nursing campus lab and a minimum grade of "C" in theory are required in order to pass the course.     4 6 6 This course builds on NUP 100 and focuses on the study and practice of concepts and skills based on nursing. Universal needs basic to all individuals are identified. Developmental needs throughout the life span are discussed. The nursing process is introduced and serves as the foundation for the development of critical thinking skills. The three roles - Provider of Care, Manager of Care, and Member within the Discipline - are introduced. Communication, teaching/learning skills, and legal standards and ethical principles are included. Pharmacology principles and concepts of major drug classifications will be integrated as appropriate to the units of study. Learning experiences are provided in the classroom and auto-tutorial lab, nursing campus lab, and clinical settings. Satisfactory (S) performance in clinical and the nursing campus lab and a minimum grade of "C" in theory are required in order to pass the course. Offered: Fall, Summer Prerequisite: Admission to Practical Nursing Program, successful completion of NUP 100 and NUT 110 with a grade of "C" or better and/or in good standing as a Certified Nursing Assistant and successful completion of NUT 110 with a grade of "C" or better.     5.5 12 9.5 This course builds on concepts, skill, and theory learned in NUP 100 and NUP 115 and includes care of the client with selected common health problems in a structured health care setting. Maternal-child, mental health, and child health principles and concepts are explored. Students are provided the opportunity to use the concepts of the nursing process and critical thinking in the clinical setting. Pharmacology principles and concepts of major drug classifications will be integrated as appropriate to the units of study. Learning experiences are provided in the classroom and auto-tutorial lab, nursing campus lab, and clinical settings. Satisfactory (S) performance in clinical and the nursing campus lab and minimum grade of "C" in theory are required in order to pass the course.
