5 3 6.5 This course prepares individuals to work under the supervision of health care professionals in performing care and services for adult clients with chronic conditions and disabilities, Alzheimer's, and related disorders. Course work emphasizes normal anatomy, developmental tasks, nutrition, asepsis, and body mechanics. The selected universal needs of hygiene, activity/rest, safety, and elimination are included as a basis for giving care. Learning experiences are provided in the classroom and autotutorial lab, nursing campus lab, and clinical setting. In accordance with the Health Care Worker Background Check of 1996, a Criminal Background Check will be initiated within the first ten days of the class. A minimum grade of "C" is required to pass the course. Students who successfully complete the class will be eligible to take the Nurse Aide Training Competency Evaluation Program written examination. Placement on the Illinois Nurse Aide Registry is contingent upon successful completion of the competency test and a clear background check, which is required for employment typically found in long-term care facilities.
