    3 hours credit This is a three-credit hour course involving lecture/recitation with strong emphasis on problem solving using vector notation. It is designed to give a general background in engineering mechanics (dynamics) for all students majoring in engineering. Prerequisites: Engineering Physics I, NASC-0245 and Calculus and Analytic Geometry II, MATH-0123.

    2 hours credit This course is designed to help the student recognize personal strengths and support systems that will contribute to the students success. The student is introduced to language and math skills necessary for the nursing program and introduced to foundations of medical and nursing terminology. Study skills, test taking skills and time management skills are discussed and evaluated as an essential component for the nursing program. Stress reduction techniques are discussed along with identifying the various college resources available throughout the nursing program. Introduction to the nursing process is presented. Prerequisite: The student who enrolls in this course is planning to enter or has entered the Kansas City Kansas Community College nursing program

    1 hour credit This course is a review of the basic nursing skills and concepts necessary to update the student to function as a nurse aide in a long term facility. This course will help the student learn about the geriatric client and the type of care unique this population needs. The course will review the responsibilities and the role of the CNA.

    4 hours credit This course is designed that through academic training the student will be able to pass medication under the supervision of a Licensed Registered Nurse or a Licensed Practical Nurse. While in training the certified medication aide student will pass medication under the supervision of the instructor, who is a Registered Nurse. The student will pass medication a long term facility. After training the student will take a state test. Upon successful completion of the state test the student will receive a certificate and be able to pass oral medication, instill ophthalmic drops, otic drops, insert suppositories, and apply topical medication. Kansas Department of Health Environment requires 75 hours for CMA. KCKCC requires 90 hours due to a college credit course. Certified medication aides must complete 10 hours of continuing education every two years, per Kansas Department Health Environment guidelines to continue passing medication. Prerequisite: Must pass the Accuplacer reading test with a score of 65 or above or show completion of READ- 0091 or READ-0092. High school diploma or GED required. A current nursing assistant certificate.

    4 hours credit This course is an introduction to basic nursing care skills and concepts necessary to prepare the student to function as a nurse aide in a long term care facility. This course will also prepare the student to take the state nurse aide certification examination. Prerequisites: Must pass the Accuplacer reading test with a score of 65 or above or show completion of READ-0091 or READ-0092. High school diploma or GED required.

    1 hour credit This course establishes the basic knowledge and competencies necessary to prepare the student to function as an entry-level nursing care provider. The student will have the opportunity to practice and develop competency of basic nursing care skills in the nursing lab. Emphasis will be placed on interventions for the Basic Physiologic Domain, Client's Rights and the Well Older Client. Prerequisite(s): Acceptance into the Nursing program and completed (or concurrent) Health Assessment course and Human Development (or Child Development).

    3 hours credit This course establishes the basis for more specialized knowledge and competencies, which will become the foundation for the student's future practice as a registered nurse. Emphasis is placed on the integrated concepts of cultural awareness, caring, health maintenance and promotion and teaching/learning. The student will interact with faculty, peers and clients as they explore communication skills and techniques and discover how they are essential to nursing practice. The student builds knowledge in order to be prepared for the dynamic changing roles, which occur in the nursing profession today. The nursing process is introduced and utilized as a systematic method to meet basic client needs. Faculty has created a learning community of diverse settings and clients where people learn together beyond the classroom. Teaching-learning activities include a variety of learning opportunities with emphasis placed on the development of student creativity and critical thinking. The student will be introduced to Nursing Interventions of the Basic Physiologic Domain, including nutrition, safety, and self-care facilitation. Prerequisites: Concurrent health assessment course and child or developmental psychology and NURS0121.

    4 hours credit This course is a continuation of the basis of specialized knowledge and competencies, which will become the foundation for the student's future practice as a registered nurse. Emphasis will continue to be placed on the concepts of cultural awareness, caring, health maintenance and promotion and teaching/learning. The student will interact with faculty, peers, and clients and the health care team as they explore communication skills and techniques. The nursing process is continued to be utilized as a systematic method to meet basic client needs. Teaching-learning activities include a variety of learning opportunities with emphasis placed on the development of student creativity and critical thinking. Pharmacology and medication administration will be introduced as well as basic and complex physiologic nursing interventions. Prerequisites; NURS-0121, Nursing Care Techniques and NURS-0122, Foundations of Nursing Care I and NURS-0193, Health Assessment.

    4 hours credit The course content expands on the concepts necessary to provide a safe caring environment for adult clients in whom psychosocial and physiologic integrity is compromised. The course content will explore care that supports homeostatic regulation for clients with electrolyte and acid-base imbalances, respiratory, and tissue perfusion concerns in a culturally diverse population. Course experiences will incorporate the nursing process and critical thinking while caring for patients in diverse settings. Communication and documentation skills will be applied to the multi-disciplinary health care team. Didactic and clinical experiences will integrate teaching and learning activities that enhance self-care, health promotion and maintenance. Prerequisites: Successful completion of NURS-0122, Foundations of Nursing Care I & NURS-0123, Foundations of Nursing Care II.

    2 hours credit Through this course the student applying for advanced standing is familiarized with the Kansas City Kansas Community College Philosophy and Objectives. The student is introduced and oriented to client needs as the conceptual framework of the Nursing Department. The student is expected to come with basic concepts of therapeutic communication, the nursing process, and growth and development. The relationship of this knowledge to the total curriculum is explored. Emphasis is placed on the use of critical thinking in the nursing process to develop care plans. Dosage computation, safe administration of drugs, and legal and ethical responsibilities of administering medications are discussed. Principles of nutritional and physical assessment are reviewed. The legal and ethical ramifications affecting the role transition from LPN to RN are explored. Students are introduced to IV therapy skills and procedures in the nursing laboratory. The bridge course provides content that orients the student to the conceptual framework, philosophy and expectations of the Kansas City Kansas Community College Nursing Program. The course also reflects that content which the faculty have identified as being distinctive to registered nurse programs. Prerequisites: Anatomy, Psychology, Human/ Child Development, Physiology and Lab, Chemistry and Lab, Microbiology, and Intermediate Algebra.
