NURS 0119 - Certified Medication Aide

4 hours credit This course is designed that through academic training the student will be able to pass medication under the supervision of a Licensed Registered Nurse or a Licensed Practical Nurse. While in training the certified medication aide student will pass medication under the supervision of the instructor, who is a Registered Nurse. The student will pass medication a long term facility. After training the student will take a state test. Upon successful completion of the state test the student will receive a certificate and be able to pass oral medication, instill ophthalmic drops, otic drops, insert suppositories, and apply topical medication. Kansas Department of Health Environment requires 75 hours for CMA. KCKCC requires 90 hours due to a college credit course. Certified medication aides must complete 10 hours of continuing education every two years, per Kansas Department Health Environment guidelines to continue passing medication. Prerequisite: Must pass the Accuplacer reading test with a score of 65 or above or show completion of READ- 0091 or READ-0092. High school diploma or GED required. A current nursing assistant certificate.
