Refines perceptual strategies, and develop greater sensitivity to the use of drawing materials. Students explore varied conceptual and historical frameworks as they develop personal imagery. They will use varied drawing materials including color drawing media, and create large-scale works. Studio sessions include drawing, individual and group critique, demonstrations, and lecture.

Refines understanding and application of the methods, materials, and concepts associated with drawing the human form. Students will develop an independent body of work that incorporates the human form as a vehicle for personal expression. They will research relevant historical and contemporary figurative concerns. Students will enhance their understanding of anatomy and draw from live models. Studio sessions include drawing, individual and group critique, demonstration, and lecture.

Engage in and explore fabric dye methods and design techniques on a variety of 100% natural fabrics. Course content includes, but is not limited to: Serti silk painting; Japanese Shibori; color removal; sustainable resist techniques; direct application; Deconstructed Screen and photo silk screen printing using fiber reactive dyes. Studio sessions include extended interaction with dye materials and methods, group and individual critiques, demonstrations and lecture.GC

Engage in and explore fabric surface design methods and techniques on natural and synthetic fabrics. Course content includes but, is not limited to: direct application; mono-print; handmade fabric stamps; complex masking; manual, photo and multicolor silkscreen printing processes using textile printing inks; and computer aided repeat pattern design and digital/inkjet printing of fabric. Studio sessions include extended interaction with surface design materials and methods, group and individual critiques, demonstrations and lectures.

Engage in and explore natural dye methods and fiber art techniques on 100% natural fabrics and fibers. Course content includes but is not limited to: Botanical/Eco Printing; foraging and collecting for natural dye; Indigo dying with Japanese shaped resist methods; sustainable natural dye and printing techniques; and two- and three-dimensional papermaking with natural fibers. Studio sessions include extended interaction with natural dye and fiber materials and methods, group and individual critiques, demonstrations and lectures.

Engage in and explore two- and three-dimensional fiber art methods and techniques with a variety of fabrics, fibers and other materials. Course content includes but, is not limited to: felting: Nuno, wet, needle; fiber sculpture and installation: twining, coiling, three-dimensional sewing, Foss Shape; and wearable art: fabric manipulation and sublimation. Studio sessions include extended interaction with fiber art materials and methods, group and individual critiques, demonstrations and lecture.

Engage in and explore two- and three-dimensional fabric sewing techniques with a variety of fabrics, materials and thread. Course content includes but, is not limited to: low water immersion dye techniques and chemistry; art quilts: fabric fusion, complex piecing, reverse applique, thread weight and quilting; hand embroidery; machine embroidery; creating thread fabric and sculpture using stitch dissolve techniques. Studio sessions include extended interaction with sewing materials and methods, group and individual critiques, demonstrations and lecture.

Introduces the methods, materials, and concepts of Painting. Students will explore varied subject matter and historical approaches. They will apply color theory, design, and varied painting techniques toward personal expression. Class sessions will include painting, individual and group critique, demonstrations, and lecture.

Explores the methods, materials and concepts associated with painting based on direct observation. Students will study and apply design and perceptual strategies while painting from direct observation. Subject matter may include but will not be limited to still-life, landscape, and the human form. Goals include developing skills in representing light, form, and space. Contemporary and historical painting will serve as models for the course.
