    This course emphasizes oral skills and conversation through the use of authenic language, cultural content, and authentic literary and journalistic readings. Each lesson provides thematic, lexical, and structural support for dynamic personal exchanges that are systematically guided. Three significant facets of human communication are emphasized: socialization, emotional connection, and dramatization. This class is intended for students who have completed elementary-level Spanish and can be taken concurrently with Intermediate Spanish. This course is not intended for native or heritage speakers.     This course will focus on the continued development and refinement of communicative competence. Critical areas such as orthography, vocabulary, and verb tenses will continue to be addressed. Further development of the four skills (reading, writing, listening and speaking) will be achieved through authentic Peninsular and Latin American literature, grammar exercises, essays/composition, and individual/group oral presentations. Topics and issues related to the cultural and historical diversity among Hispanics, and the countries where Spanish is spoken will be presented. The goal of this course is to provide bilingual students of Hispanic background, who want to improve their formal knowledge of the Spanish language, with the tools necessary to use Spanish more effectively in both personal and professional situations.     This course is an introduction of principles of communication theory, interpersonal, small group, and public communication. The course is designed to help students become more aware of their roles and responsibilities as initiators of, and respondents to, communication in informal and formal settings. The principles are applied through lectures, exercises, and informal and formal oral presentations. Lecture ( 45.00)

    Honors Public Speaking introduces the principles and techniques of formal communication. Attention will be given to speaker-listener relationships, management and choice of ideas, selection and organization of materials, and use of language and nonverbal elements. Particular attention will be paid to the principles and skills of persuasion and delivery skills as well as audience analysis. Formal presentations will be required. Lecture ( 45.00)

    This course is designed to introduce future professional speakers and educators to the variety of world literary genres and their application as spoken art. The student will study classic and contemporary prose, poetry and drama to understand and interpret the works with sensitivity to social moment, author perspective and audience relevance. Students in this course will be trained in exercises to overcome performance anxiety and speech delivery obstacles and to perfect non-verbal communication skills including posture, gesture, eye contact and appropriate attire.     This course stresses the development of more effective communication in interpersonal relationships in family, work and social settings. It includes a conceptual framework for thinking about difficulties and effectiveness in interpersonal relationships; practice in talking, thinking and listening skills central to interpersonal settings; experience analyzing the problems in, and the requirements of, a variety of communicative situations. There is emphasis on the development of skills for choosing communicative actions wisely. Lecture ( 45.00)

    This course will focus on the principles and theories of communications as they relate to the small group process. It will deal with the barriers to effective group discussion and leadership with corresponding remedial measures, as well as an application of small group research as it pertains to hypothetical and actual small group situations. This course will also be the study and application of principles of critical thinking, process, participation, and evaluation to task-oriented groups. Lecture ( 45.00)
