This course is designed to introduce future professional speakers and educators to the variety of world literary genres and their application as spoken art. The student will study classic and contemporary prose, poetry and drama to understand and interpret the works with sensitivity to social moment, author perspective and audience relevance. Students in this course will be trained in exercises to overcome performance anxiety and speech delivery obstacles and to perfect non-verbal communication skills including posture, gesture, eye contact and appropriate attire.
