Covers water supply operations in fire service, including pre-fire planning operations, water quantity calculations, water source operations, delivery systems and options, and hydraulic calculations. Designed to meet the competencies set forth in NFPA 1002: Driver/Operator. Prerequisite: 122.

Prepares students to become nursing assistants in convalescent centers, hospitals, and home and community settings. Covers the nursing assistant's role on the health care team, basic technical and personal care skills, measuring body functions, restorative and rehabilitative techniques, communication, infection control, safety and emergency procedures. Identifies clients? ?rights, mental health, and social service needs, recognizing individual, cultural, and religious diversity. Meets Washington State and Federal requirements for nursing assistant education. Prerequisite: none.

2.00 Credits
The discipline of nursing is examined from the viewpoints of legal status, ethics in nursing, educational requirements, and consumer require nursing, educational requirements, and consumer requirements. The current health care industry is explored by comparing the acute care and chronic care models for delivering health care. Addresses the functions and responsibilities for the nursing profession including roles of the registered nurse, licensed practical nurse, nursing assistant, and other licensed and unlicensed health care workers. Theories and approaches applicable to leadership and management in health care are included. Prerequisite: Admission to the nursing Program. Concurrent enrollment in nursing 141,142, and 143.

Introduces the theoretical/conceptual framework of the nursing program. Focuses on the nursing process. Builds the foundation for nursing assessment including nursing history as a basis for nursing care planning across the life span. Includes principles of health promotion and wellness, health teaching, mental health concepts, gerontology, nutrition, and pharmacology. Focuses on the management of patients with selected cardiovascular, respiratory, immune, and integumentary disorders. Prerequisite: Admission to the nursing program. Concurrent enrollment in nursing 140, 142, and 143.

2.00 Credits
Emphasis is on nursing skills development for performing a nursing history and physical assessment. Focuses on medication administration techniques except for intravenous medication. Includes blood glucose monitoring, oximetry, and basic oxygen administration. Prerequisite: Admission to the nursing program. Concurrent enrollment in nursing 140, 141, and 143.

Provides clinical experience in long term care and outpatient settings with emphasis on application of basic skills and on health, wellness, and gerontology. Applies health history and assessment techniques. Focuses on application of the nursing process to promote health and minimize illness. Prerequisite: Admission to the nursing program. Concurrent enrollment in nursing 140, 141, and 142. 141 must be passed with a "C" or better to receive credit in this course.

Focuses on the management of patients with acute and chronic medical conditions of the gastrointestinal, genitourinary, and musculoskeletal systems. Theoretical preparation for intravenous therapy, preoperative nursing and pain management will be included. The application of the nursing process will be emphasized. Nutrition and pharmacology are integrated. Prerequisite: Admission to the nursing program. Completion of 140, 141, 142, and 143. Concurrent enrollment in 145 and 146.

Focuses on skill development in medication administration including intravenous medications. Surgical asepsis, wound care, perioperative nursing skills, such as bladder catheterization and airway management are included. The nursing process will be emphasized during the application of nursing skills. Prerequisite: Admission to the nursing program. Completion of 140, 141, 142, and 143. Concurrent enrollment in 144 and 146.

4.00 Credits
Provides additional patient experiences in long term care and a beginning experience in caring for moderately ill hospitalized patients with medical (non-surgical) problems. Students will apply the nursing process and newly acquired nursing skills to the patient's health problems. Medication administration and wound care will be performed. Patient education is an emphasis. Prerequisite: Admission to the nursing program. Completion of 140, 141, 142, and 143. Concurrent enrollment in 144 and 145. 144 must be passed with a "C" or better to receive credit for this course.

4.00 Credits
A comprehensive look at the modern-day childbirth experience, including prenatal, intrapartum, postpartum, and nursing care of the newborn. Included is women's health maintenance through the lifespan and common complications. The nursing process is utilized throughout. Prerequisite: Admission to the nursing program. Completion of nursing 144, 145, 146. Concurrent enrollment in 148.
