    3 hours credit Spanish III is the first half of a year long intermediate Spanish course. The objective of the course is to increase students' competence in all language skill areas (speaking, reading, writing, listening and culture). By the end of the semester, students who have applied themselves and studied seriously will be able to converse, to read and understand short stories and other publications, and to express themselves in writing, all in Spanish. Prerequisite: Spanish II, LANG-0142.

    4 hours credit Math Essentials emphasizes skill building in the operations of basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division as they relate to whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. These basic skills are then applied to the areas of ratio and proportion, percents, measurement, basic geometric concepts, and statistics. Algebra is introduced with the study of signed numbers, algebraic expressions, and basic equations. Students will be expected to use appropriate technology as one tool to achieve competency in Math Essentials. Prerequisite(s): There is no prerequisite for this course. Mandatory placement for first time college students or first time math students is based on the ACCUPLACER Elementary Algebra test. The following scores determine placement in math courses: 0-30 MATH-097 Math Essentials 31-70 MATH-099 Elementary Algebra 71-99 MATH-0104 Intermediate Algebra 100-120 Enrollment is open First-time college students who have taken the ACT or SAT within the last 24 months may be exempt from taking the placement evaluation in Math if their score is ACT 23/SAT 575 or higher in math.

    3 hours credit Elementary Algebra is an introductory algebra course for the student who has a solid foundation in arithmetic, signed numbers, and basic equations. Topics studied will include fundamentals of algebra, solutions of linear equations and inequalities, problem solving, graphs of linear equations, operations with polynomials, factoring, solving quadratic equations, rational expressions, and radical expressions. Students will be expected to use appropriate technology as one tool to achieve competency in Elementary Algebra. Prerequisite: Grade of "B" or better in MATH-0097, MathEssentials. Read ACCUPLACER score of 60 or better. Mandatory placement for first time college students or first time math students is based on the ACCUPLACER Elementary Algebra test. Topics studied will include a review of basic algebra, factoring, functions and graphs, rational expressions and equations, radicals and complex numbers, quadratic functions and equations, and an introduction to logarithmic functions.     5 hours credit or 3 hours credit This course is designed for students who need College Algebra for their curriculum studies. The content includes analyzing and graphing functions and non-functions and it includes finding solutions of equations and inequalities. The 5-credit course provides for a review. Students will be expected to use appropriate technology as one tool to achieve competency in College Algebra. The selection of review topics and any additional topics is to be determined by the instructor. Prerequisite: Grade of "C" or better in MATH-0104, Intermediate Algebra.     1 hour credit This course is designed for students with limited or no background in the use of the TI-83 or 84 Plus graphing calculator. The purpose of this course is to prepare the student for success in such math courses as Intermediate Algebra (MATH-0104), College Algebra (MATH-0105), and beyond. The course will also benefit students enrolled in any of the science courses. Prerequisite(s): Grade of "C" or higher inMATH-0099, Elementary Algebra Mandatory placement for first time college students or first time math students is based on the ACCUPLACER Elementary Algebra test.
