This class assists students in field work to systematically conceptualize and integrate the field experience with the Generalist Social Work Practice model. The seminar builds on and reemphasizes foundation content. Seminar discussion focuses on shared field work experience, social work ethics, professionalism, intervention strategies and field instruction documentation. This course offers a block supervised field instruction experience in a approved social work agency which focuses on the development of beginning competency in the application of theory and skills acquired in the professional foundation courses to work the individuals, families, groups and communities. Professional behavior, demonstration of social work ethics, use of the problem solving method, practical application of interviewing and recording skills, use of community resources and knowledge of the agency's fit in the human service delivery system are highlights of this couse. Students will spend four days per week in practicum during the semester. Pre-requisite: final semester, senior status. Co-requisite: SW 414

Integrative seminar is designed for students to take this course in conjunction with their field course which will be taken during the denior year of under graduate studies. The course will be primarily didactic in nature intersperse with presentations and case presentations and data analysis. Meeting once a week, students will discuss the week's field experiences and their use of material learned throughout their social work education up to this point.

This course is designed as a prerequisite for further study in the Masters of Social Work (MSW) program. It is intended to provide all students with the required skills for writing as a professional social worker at the graduate level. Emphasis will be placed upon interpretive, analytical, and evaluative thinking and writing skills. This preparatory course is intended to familiarize students with the writing skills necessary for papers during the MSW program, for these and dissertations, and for submission of articles for publication.

This is the first of two foundation courses which involves the study of human behavior throughout the life cycle. This course will include study of the human as a system from conception through adolescence. It will examine the impact of biological, psychological and societal factors as they influence the individual in the social environment, utilizing ecological systems and psychosocial theoretical conceptual frameworks.

This course provides an overview of the organization and growth of social welfare as a social institution and social work as a profession. It focuses on the historical and philosophical view points underlying current social welfare programs and services. it provides foundation knowledge of policy formulation and analysis of current social policies.

This initial practice course is designed to provide all beginning level MSW students with a common frame-of-reference for viewing the practice of social work. It applies core principles of practice across different size client systems of individuals, families, groups, organizations and communities. This sequence, therefore, provides a basic generalist foundation for both the direct practice concentration and administrative practice concentration.

This course will examine various parametric and parametric univariate, bivariate and multivariate tests employed in inferential statistics. The course will provide knowledge of the terminology, symbols, and methods used in inferential statistics. Addionally, the course will focus on parametric estimation and hypothesis testing in relation to interpreting and completing basic data analysis. Finally, the course will address SPSS application in the understanding and analyzing of computer print-outs. (This course will also include an overview of the research process when offered as SWK 602 in the summer semester to students in the advanced standing program).
