    6 (4 + 4) Prerequisite: NUR 3100, NUR 3650, and NUR 3750 This course provides the tools for critical analysis of the principles of health promotion and disease prevention for families and communities. Cultural diversity, ethics, legal and political responsibility of the nurse in leadership roles of advocate, change agent, collaborator, resource person and teacher are emphasized. The student applies knowledge of public health science, and nursing theories to make assessments of the client/community. The student applies theories and models from the fields of education, nursing, and public health to community nursing, including vulnerable populations and violence and family health risks in 90 hours of clinical practice within a community setting.

    4 (4 + 0) Prerequisite: Admission to Baccalaureate Registered Nurse Completion Program: NUR 3100 and successful completion of all courses in accordance with the curriculum sequence This course is designed to assist the student in developing as a professional nurse by investigating leadership and management theories and principles. The course emphasizes management, leadership, organizational theories, policy, regulatory requirements, evidence-based practice and business economics. Major emphasis is placed on accountability and communication.

    4 (1 + 6) Prerequisite: completion of all other NUR courses in sequence Corequisite: NUR 4300 This capstone course provides senior nursing students with the opportunity to synthesize program concepts and theories. The clinical component is designed to explore clinical experiences new to the student. Students collaborate with faculty and clinical preceptor to develop personal learning objectives that relate to program outcomes. (Senior Experience)

    2 (0 + 4) Prerequisite: Admission to the Accelerated Nursing Program This course is an introduction to nursing that includes orientation to the nursing process, nursing diagnoses, and critical thinking in developing a plan of care. A faculty-facilitated simulation lab is the environment used to teach the steps for safe delivery of basic care skills. Critical thinking and communication processes will be integral to the learning of basic skills.

Classroom and clinical experiences emphasize understanding the impact of individual and societal perceptions of aging and the aging process. This course includes cultural, legal, and environmental factors, and the diverse health status found in the older adult. Communication is developed as an essential feature of the care of the older adult in a variety of settings.

    2 (2 + 0) Prerequisite: Successful completion of NURA courses, labs, and clinicals in accordance with the curriculum sequence earning a "C" or betterThis course introduces the basics of health assessment and aids the student in employing the components of a health history with those of the physical exam to develop an individualized plan of care. The student learns the components of a holistic health history and a complete physical exam to include application across the lifespan. The nursing process, nursing diagnoses, and cultural sensitivity will be included.

    3 (3 + 0) Prerequisite: Admission to the Accelerated Nursing Program Corequisite: NURA 3010 This course introduces the student to the profession of nursing and the culture of health care. Fundamental values, theoretical foundations, and the rich history of nursing will be explored. Students will begin to develop an understanding of human responses to health and illness. Students will being to apply the nursing process, nursing diagnoses, and critical thinking in developing a plan of care, with an emphasis on communication. This course fosters an understand of the role of informatics in nursing and health care.

    4 (3 + 2) Prerequisite: Successful completion of NURA courses, labs, and clinicals in accordance with the curriculum sequence earning a "C" or betterClinical pharmacology covers the major principles of pharmacology, drug classifications, and their use in health and the prevention and/or treatment of major disease states, as well as the application of the nursing process incorporating pharmacology. Laboratory sessions provide the opportunity to practice hands-on application of dosage calculation and drug administration and to demonstrate competency necessary to safely administer medications for patients in the clinical setting. Critical thinking and communication processes will be integrated into the learning of basic skills.

    3 (3 + 0) Prerequisite: Successful completion of NURA courses, labs, and clinicals in accordance with the curriculum sequence earning a "C" or betterThis course is designed to familiarize the beginning nursing student with the effect of diseases on body systems. Pertinent biochemical and metabolic processes are correlated with their effects on the cellular structure of the body. Interrelatedness of body systems and response to disease will be explored. Demographics, health disparities, etiology, pathogenesis, and signs and symptoms will be identified as related to various disease processes.
