Acquaints students with different methods of physiological conditioning enabling them to design their own program for a lifetime of physical fitness and wellness. Includes pre-testing and performance activities in cardiovascular training, weight training, flexibility training, and body composition assessment. (Usually offered Fall and Spring semesters).

Introduction to the practices and principles of aerobic fitness. Consists of regular participation in an aerobic program as well as emphasis on the physiology of aerobic fitness, care and prevention of common injuries, and class structuring. (Usually offered Fall and Spring semesters.)

Provides the student with an understanding of the muscular system and how weight training methods are taught that will enable a student to design a personal program for a lifetime of fitness. The course includes the use of cardiovascular equipment, traditional free weights, and CYBEX equipment. Safe use of equipment will be covered. (Usually offered Fall and Spring semesters.)

Introduces the student to the racquet sport, badminton. The course includes beginning strokes and serves, court position for doubles and singles play, strategy, terminology, etiquette, and rules of the game. Men's and women's singles, doubles, and mixed doubles are played. (Usually offered Fall and Spring semesters.)

An introductory course designed to provide a student with the knowledge, fundamental skills, strategy, and safety necessary to safely fence on a fencing strip. The equipment used is non-electrical. (Usually offered Fall semester.)

An Introduction to the Oriental art of Karate to include origin of the various styles, fighting stances, blocking, open hand and foot techniques. (Usually offered Fall and Spring semesters).

Introduces the fast-paced game of four-wall racquetball. It includes the basic strokes, serves, safety during play, rules, court positioning, and strategy. Singles, cutthroat, and doubles are played. Students are required to have a racket and eye safety equipment for each class. (Usually offered Fall and Spring semesters.)

Introduces the racket sport of tennis to the inexperienced student. The grips, basic skills (forehand, backhand, flat serve, lob, and volley) are introduced as well as USTA rules, conditioning, etiquette, strategy, and safety. The doubles and singles baseline games are emphasized, but net play is covered for both. (Usually offered Fall and Summer semesters.)

Fundamentals of swimming for the unskilled. Strokes and skills paralleling the American Red Cross Beginner and advanced beginner levels are taught. (Usually offered Fall semester.)

This course is designe to introduce the student to the modern game of softball. The course will include the acquisition of basic skills: throwing, catching, fielding, hitting, pitching, base running, and sliding. Incorporated into the course are rules as established by the WNY Softball Association, offensive and defensive strategies, conditioning, safety, principles of umpiring, equipment and apparel, and principles of conduct. (Usually offered Spring semester.)
