Generalist skills will be developed to contribute to group interaction, motivation and overall development. Cultural competence and ethics will be emphasized. The student will also understand the need to engage in the evaluation of social work practice with individuals, families, organizations and communities. Prerequisite: SW313. 3 hours lecture, one semester; 3 credits.

    This is a course designed to offer the student a theoretical base of knowledge to understand the role of the professional social worker as an advocate and change agent working towards the goal of social justice. The concept of advocacy is applied to individual and family work, agency, policy, community organization and legislative considerations. Appropriate social work skills are taught to empower the student to translate theoretical knowledge into social work practice. Prerequisites: SW203, SW310, SW323. Offered each year. 3 hours lecture, one semester; 3 credits.

    Intensive study of a particular area of social work selected by the student with approval of the department chairperson and the social work faculty. This course is intended for the advanced student who has demonstrated high achievement in previous work. 3 credits.

    Provides the student with the opportunity to work in a social work setting on a full-time basis (400 hours total), performing all duties and responsibilities of the entry-level generalist social worker. A weekly seminar is held in conjunction with the field placement to discuss practical experience and to develop advanced social work skills. The course is open to seniors only and fulfills senior experience. Prerequisites: SW203, SW295, SW305, SW306, SW310, SW313, SW323, SW390; SW414 may be taken concurrently; successful completion of 2 social work electives; successful completion of the Academic Skills Assessment: WritingI; and 3.0 average in major courses. Offered each year. 6 credits.

    Provides the student with the opportunity to work in a social work setting on a full-time basis (400 hours total), performing all duties and responsibilities of the entry-level generalist social worker. A weekly integration seminar is held in conjunction with the field placement to discuss practical experience and to develop advanced social work skills. The course is open to seniors only and fulfills senior capstone experience. Prerequisites: SW203, SW295, SW305,306 SW310, SW313, SW323, SW390; SW414, SW440 may be taken with SW496; successful completion of 2 social work electives; successful completion of the Accuplacer and Writeplacer Plus; and 3.0 average in major courses. Offered each year. 6 credits.

The course is open to seniors only and fulfills senior capstone experience. Prerequisites: may be taken with SW496; successful completion of 2 social work electives; successful completion of the Accuplacer and Writeplacer Plus; and 3.0 average in major courses. Offered each year. 6 credits

    This course is designed to introduce students to important texts within the Hebrew Bible. By its end, students will have focused on particular writings in Hebrew Scripture; e.g., the Pentateuch, Prophetic literature, the Wisdom tradition, Psalms or apocalyptic.
