Pre-req.: ENG 042, MAT 050 or appropriate placement test score This course addresses the fundamentals of accounting theory and practice: double entry, journals and ledgers, control accounts and subsidiary ledgers, financial statements, taxes, valuation reserves, inventory costing, accounting for notes, accruals and deferrals, and adjusting and closing entries.

Allied Health Option or for students who have an interest in health care professions. The course addresses standards of care, scope of practice, health care ethics, legal responsibilities, health care reform, health care organizations, and professional organizations. Content also includes educational preparation, credentialing, career mobility, and employment projections in the health care industry.

3 cr. Pre-req.: ENG 041, ENG 042 or appropriate placement test score and BIO 262, BIO 263 This course reviews the structure and use of medical words. Students are able to build a professional vocabulary based on an understanding of prefixes, suffixes, word roots and combining forms. Additionally, they learn how to spell, define, and pronounce medical terms and how to use a medical dictionary.

3 cr. LEC 3 hrs. This course provides an examination of the major ethical issues confronting the medical and legal professions, as well as the issues common to both. Such issues include informed consent, standards of care, treatment options, competencies, end-of-life treatment decisions, euthanasia, assisted suicide and other current topics. The unique role of the nurse paralegal is emphasized.

3 cr. LEC 3 hrs. This course examines the organization of our government and the various federal administrative departments relevant to the health care industry. The course covers corporate liability, medical staffing issues, and liability issues facing health care professionals. Patients' rights and responsibilities and record management are covered. Cases focus on issues of procreation, acquired immune deficiency syndrome, and patient consent.

3 cr. LEC 3 hrs. This course concentrates on the study of culture, personality, and social organization. It emphasizes non-Western societies in an attempt to understand the forces that motivate human behavior. Topics include witchcraft, ghosts, rituals, and modern anthropological theories.
