This course will begin with a solid understanding of traditional techniques such as washes, bleeds and layering. Students will then explore the expressive qualities of the medium and its changing effects on a variety of paper and end the course by developing a painting from start to finish. A Saturday visit to the Brandywine River Museum will be planned. Some drawing experience is preferred, but not necessary.

Inclusions, lamination and stencil techniques will be the focus of the first session. Pulp painting and pouring will be covered during the second and the final session will explore 3-D papermaking with various kinds of molds. Wear none slip sole shoes. All levels welcome.

    Instructor: Bradley Turner eight sessions Wednesday, 6:00-9:15 PM; February 18-April 8 NON-CREDIT Tuition: $275/Lab Fee: $35; 2.6 CEUs As self-expression and different mediums of art become more and more a part of our popular culture, this class will provide a practical application for urban art. While providing an emphasis on technique and referencing historical evidence through documentary film and literature, this hands-on course will encompass the history and techniques of modern urban art. The course will feature a broad exploration and explanation of the facets of urban art along with a breakdown of the specific mediums and styles. The students will learn about the various techniques and methods of urban art through hands-on demonstrations, including color theory, composition and layout, hand styles, spray paint cap techniques, stencil cutting, wheat past poster construction, mixed media collage, as well as a practical and sensible application of urban art in today's society. Students will be guided through the creation of their own unique piece of art on a medium of their choice including wood panel or canvas.

Through manyshort drawings, students will practice catching light and shadow while keeping attention on proportion, anatomy and foreshortening.     Instructor: Jean Diver ten sessions Saturday, 10:00 AM -12:00 PM, February 21-April 25 NON-CREDIT Tuition: $230; 2 CEUs CREDIT Tuition: $450; 1 Credits This course offers a tranquil way to review the oil painting basics for beginners and returning painters. This course will introduce students to all materials - even learn to stretch a small canvas. Basic color theory and mixing will be covered. The class will learn a three dimensional painting method using a still-life model. Students will have a better understanding of different painting methods as well and take home information for future reference through out the session.

    Instructor: Jeffrey Chase TWO SESSIONS Saturday & Sunday, 9:00 AM -2:00 PM, January 17 & 18 Non-Credit Tuition: $125/Lab Fee: $25; 2 CEUs This class will offer the chance to build your unique bookform from found objects including wire, metal, wood and paper. Mediums implemented include xerography, woodcut and collage as well as investigation of numerous methods of hand binding. This class will allow for artists working in various media (photography, creative writing, printmaking, digital media, and sculpture) to learn the fundamentals of bookarts in a class built around conceptual thinking and experimentation. The application for photo transfer, xerography, paper-engineering and relief print are limitless. Don't miss out on learning this important skill as an artist!

    Instructor: Michael Kalmbach Saturday, 12:00-4:00 PM, May 9 NON-CREDIT Tuition: $50 In this half-day workshop, students will learn the preparation and techniques that go into creating customized, hand-painted sneakers. Bring one pair of white sneakers (leather preferred), lots of individuality and ideas regarding preferred colors and designs, and learn the skills necessary to create your own, exclusive kicks.

No solvents are used. Please bring your own natural bristle brushes. All other materials provided. All levels welcome.

    Instructor: Chandler McKaig Saturday & Sunday, 9:00 AM -1:30 PM, May 2 & 3 NON-CREDIT Tuition: $125/Lab Fee: $25; 1 CEUs This workshop is designed to show fine artists the procedure of photographing their own work in an economical way (this course is for non-photographers). The course will concentrate on basic photographic and lighting techniques. It will be necessary to have access to a digital single lens reflex camera. Please bring some of your artwork to photograph (a variety of different mediums would be appreciated).
