This First Year Seminar examines the need for knowledge, where to find it, and how to understand and use it through in depth study of a specific topic in marine biology and ecology. The course emphasizes active learning, fosters peer collaboration, and promotes rigor in scholarship. Students learn academic skills and frames of mind that can be applied in future courses and careers. This course can be substituted for CSS-103 to fulfill the College Success Strategies requirement.
Prerequisite:
Take COM-098; Minimum grade C. (Required, Previous).

The focus of this course is on the development and acquisition of skills, techniques, and knowledge to enable students to successfully participate in tennis on a limited basis. Emphasis will be placed on the enrichment, enhancement, and improvement of student?s physical, social, and mental wellness.

This course will focus on the skills, techniques, drills, strategies and rules which are essential for effective play in the game of basketball.The students will engage in drill sessions, small game sessions (three-on-three), and full-court games. Skill testing and game play will form the basis for the evaluation of proper basketball techniques.

The focus of this course is to introduce the student to the elementary positions of classical ballet. These concepts are incorporated into a full ballet class with exercises at the barre, in the center and moving across the floor. Classes are slow and thorough to ensure the understanding and improvement of proper alignment, posture, rotation, and flexibility while experiencing the joy and beauty of ballet.

This Course focuses on the health-related benefits of moderate to vigorous exercise through walking and resistance and flexibility training. Conditioning exercises to develop muscular strength, muscular endurance, and joint flexibility are included, as well as an emphasis on cardiorespiratory health through a variety of walking activities.

This course will focus on the rules, skills, techniques, drills, and strategies which are essential for effective play in the game of volleyball. The students will engage in drill sessions and game play. Skill testing, along with game play, will form the basis for the evaluation of proper volleyball techniques.

This Salsa dancing course will introduce the art of Latin American dancing and will introduce the necessary skills to appreciate the artistic, athletic and social qualities of dance. Students will learn the encompassing concepts surrounding dance including culture, etiquette, and application in social settings. In addition on being a learning experience, this will be an enjoyable course.

Take COM-018 EAP-018 RPLE-018 RPLW-018 COM-021 RPLR-021 EAP-020 COM-061 RPLR-061 EAP-060 COM-121 or COM-122. (Required, Previous).

The focus of this course is on the development of skills, techniques and knowledge to enable students to successfully participate in ballroom dancing on a lifetime basis. Emphasis will be placed on the enrichment, enhancement, and improvement of student?s rhythmic movement that will be applied to different dance rhythms.

A study of the application of physical fitness techniques (exercise) for both males and females related to the development and improvement of strength, flexibility, and cardiovascular endurance. Area of emphasis include effects of exercise on the physiological systems of the body, development of individualized fitness programs, and development of appreciation of the values derived from such training programs and other lifetime sports activities.
