This course represents the major internship activity for students in the B.B.A. Golf Course Management program. Students choose among GMBA 360, GMBA 362, and GMBA 364 depending on whether their career goal is Clubhouse Manager, Superintendent, or Golf Professional. This internship takes place during the spring and summer of the senior year. Students enroll in the internship as part of their spring-semester course load. Two other spring-semester courses have been designed as eight weeks in length to allow interns to depart for their internship in mid-March. Total time of the intenship is 15 weeks. Internships are available regionally, nationally, and internationally. A detailed daily log, an extensive summary report, and a seminar presentation are required. A faculty supervisor from the College will visit the intern at the site once during the internship period. The designated golf course cooperator will guide the intern through a predetermined set of goals and objectives. This course is devoted to the methods and techniques of teaching the game of golf with emphasis on teaching the proper techniques for hitting the golf ball. Topics covered include teaching techniques, training techniques, motivational strategies, teaching to different age groups, recording student progress, and the use of video and other visual teaching tools. This course represents the third of four professional/ internship experiences (two internships and two professional work experiences) that students in the Golf Course Management (B.B.A.) programs are required to complete in order to graduate. It builds upon experiences in TURF or GMBA 181/182, GMBA 280, and upon the information learned in the classroom. This course is designed to maintain and further enhance the hands-on skills acquired during the previous work experiences, and keep students prepared for the final "capstone" internship activity of the senior year. Students will be encouraged to explore different types of facilities than they have worked in in the past in order to build a varied experience and be exposed to different maintenance and management techniques. This course will be completed at an approved site. Students must complete a minimum of 320 hours (full-time employment) to fulfill the requirements of This course. Note that most employers expect students to work from mid-May until the end of August. This course is specifically designed for Golf Course Management (B.B.A.) Clubhouse Manager students. This course is the first in a two-course final internship sequence (GMBA 471). Students enrolled in This course are close to completing their requirements for graduation, and as such, will be given extensive faculty guidance and time to research and discuss appropriate internship sites. The reputation, location, and opportunities for advancement within a site will be emphasized with each student, as well as the importance of completing and documenting a long-term on-site project (or several smaller projects), and completing student and internship-supervisor objectives for both GMBA 470 and 471. Students will meet individually and as a group on a regular (weekly) basis with faculty prior to leaving campus for the internship. This course represents a continuation of the GMBA 470 internship activity for students in the Golf Course Management (B.B.A.) Clubhouse Manager program. It builds upon the previous internship experiences and work covered during GMBA 470. This internship starts at the end of the spring semester and will end before the beginning of the fall semester; OR, for some students, the internship will start approximately at the end of the spring semester and end about 6 weeks into the next fall semester. This course provides students with the unique opportunity to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge acquired in the classroom and the practical applied skills necessary for the profession. The internship will strengthen students' interpersonal, managerial, and time- management skills, as well as enhance important lifelong contacts in the profession.
