The role of manager of care, and member of the profession, will be stressed. Delegation, evaluation, management and leadership principles as related to the practice are examined. Issues impacting the professional nurse in the healthcare setting are explored including ethical, legal, education, and licensure. Prerequisite: Nursing courses in the first three nursing semesters. 8 Week Session (2 contact hours per week) Application of nursing knowledge using a variety of resources is used in preparation for the graduate nursing role. Critical thinking and the nursing process will be used to integrate and reflect upon the total range of nursing knowledge in a comprehensive manner. The HESI Exit Examination will be given as a component of the course. A total score of at least 900 on the HESI Exit Examination is required to pass the course. The HESI Exit Examination Score is not rounded (I.E., 99.9 does not round to 100 but remains 99). Prerequisite: Nursing courses in the first three nursing semesters. An integrated practicum required by the Kentucky Board of Nursing (KBN). The experience shall be completed within a period not to exceed seven (7) consecutive weeks during the last semester of a nursing program and consist of a minimum of 120 clocks hours. The focus is concentrated clinical experience of direct patient care in a health care facility or health care organization that meets KBN stipulations. Students may be required to work weekends and/or any component of the 24-hour work cycle followed in the designated facility/organization. The nurse as provider and manager of care is emphasized. In addition, classroom seminar will be used to summarize the clinical experience. Prerequisite: Nursing courses in the first three nursing semesters. Co requisites: NUR 232/ 233/235/240

Designed for students who desire an adaptive physical conditioning program tailored for the individual. Flexibility, light calisthenics, and a run-walk-run program are expected for the activity period participation. The lecture sessions consist of discussions concerning health related matters and physical fitness components. Although the course is open to all students, preference is given to students with health or physical limitations.
