    A study of the management of common traumatic emergencies and recognition of potential problems related to mechanism of injury and kinematics. Pathophysiology of shock, soft tissue trauma and burn management is included in this curriculum. Musculoskeletal trauma, immobilization and interventions of head/neck, thoracic and spinal trauma will be emphasized. This curriculum includes skills lab and practice of basic and advanced life support immobilization, splinting and bandaging and will meet the standards of the national basic trauma life support guidelines.     This phase is the first component of in-the-field pre-hospital setting designed to allow progression of the paramedic student in advanced didactic and skills training, and progression towards eligibility to become licensed as a paramedic according to state and national regulations and will allow the paramedic student the clinical experience in the pre-hospital setting. This field internship is a period of direct supervised pre-hospital clinical experience on an advanced care vehicle, which provides the student with a progression of increasing patient care responsibilities, which proceeds from observation to working as a team member. After progressing through record keeping and participation in actual patient care, the student shall ultimately function as the patient care leader. Students must be aware of the intensity of this course objective that requires dedication to successfully complete the total of clinical hours and patient contacts required based upon the U.S. DOT National Standard Paramedic Curriculum. Prerequisite: Successful completion of EMS courses, Basic Life Support, Basic Trauma Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support and departmental approval.

    Supervised clinical application of skills developed in EMS 201. Skills evaluated will include medical/trauma patient assessment, intravenous therapy initiation, and administration of medications in the pre-hospital and emergency departments. Continued skill attainment in obtaining vital signs, with basic and advanced treatment modalities for the ill or injured initiated in the pre-hospital and emergency department settings. Emphasis is also placed on accurate documentation and communication skills. Skills will be supervised, monitored, and evaluated during clinical setting by a medical professional of the medical facility. Co requisite: EMS 201.

Continued skill attainment in obtaining vital signs, with basic and advanced treatment modalities for the ill or injured, initiated in the pre-hospital and emergency department settings. Emphasis is placed on accurate documentation and communication skills. Skills will be supervised, monitored, and evaluated during clinical setting by a clinical preceptor. Co requisite: EMS 221
