Specifically, the topics of cardiovascular epidemiology, anatomy and physiology, pathophysiology and electrophysiology. Topics to be covered include, but not limited to, initial cardiovascular assessment, focused history, detailed physical examination, diagnostic electrocardiography and electrocardiographic monitoring. Management and treatment of the cardiac/cardiovascular patient will be taught in Cardiology II.

    Prerequisites: EMS 126, EMS 127, EMS 128, EMS 129, MAT 1012 Corequisites: EMS 130, EMS 132, EMS 134 Prerequisites/Corequisites: AHS 1011, ENG 1010, SCT 100 This course expands on the objectives in Cardiology I to focus on advanced assessment techniques and management of the cardiac patient. Instruction centers around appropriate treatment modalities based on assessment findings and interpretation. Management techniques include pharmacological and electrical interventions and emergency resuscitative treatment through the utilization of the American Heart Association's ACLS provider's course.

    Prerequisites: EMS 126, EMS 127, EMS 128, EMS 129, MAT 1012 Corequisites: EMS 130, EMS 132, EMS 133 Prerequisites/Corequisites: AHS 1011, ENG 1010, SCT 100 Provides an in-depth study of the nervous, endocrine, gastrointestinal, renal, hematopoietic, and immune systems. Topics include epidemiology, pathophysiology, assessment, and management of specific injuries/illnesses. Emphasis is placed on allergies/anaphylaxis, toxicology, environmental emergencies, and infectious and communicable diseases. General/specific pathophysiology assessment and management are discussed in detail for environmental emergencies. Infectious and communicable disease topics include public health principles, public health agencies, infection, pathogenicity, infectious agents, and specific infectious disease processes and their management.

    Prerequisites: EMS 126, EMS 127, EMS 128, EMS 129, EMS 130, EMS 132, EMS 133, EMS 134, EMS 200A, MAT 1012 Corequisites: EMS 131, EMS 200B Prerequisites/Corequisites: AHS 1011, ENG 1010, SCT 100 Emphasizes the study of gynecological, obstetrical, pediatric and neonatal emergencies. Maternal / Pediatric Emergencies explores the unique situations specific to mother / child relationships to formulate assessment and treatment plans. Topics include a detailed understanding of anatomy and physiology, pathophysiology, assessment and treatment priorities idiosyncratic to the obstetrical, gynecological, pediatric and neonatal patient populations. Pediatric and neonatal growth and development is included. Successful completion of a PALS, or equivalent, course within the module is required.

    Prerequisites: EMS 126, EMS 127, EMS 128, EMS 129, EMS 130, EMS 131, EMS 132, EMS 133, EMS 134, EMS 135, EMS 200A, MAT 1012 Corequisite: EMS 201 Prerequisites/Corequisites: AHS 1011, ENG 1010, SCT 100 Provides an overview of the assessment and management of behavioral emergencies as they pertain to pre-hospital care. Topics include: communication skills and crisis intervention, assessment and management of the adult and adolescent patient with behavioral emergencies, management of the violent patient, management of the suicidal patient, medical/legal considerations, and stress management. Life span, geriatrics, abuse, special challenges, and chronic care patients are included.

    Corequisites: EMS 126, EMS 127, EMS 128, EMS 129 Prerequisites/Corequisites: AHS 1011, ENG 1010, MAT 1012, SCT 100 This module provides for supervised experience that meets Georgia Department of Human Resources Office of EMS requirements for providing patient care in the hospital and pre-hospital settings. Emphasis is placed on the assessment and management of medical and trauma emergencies in adult and pediatric patient populations. Ethical, legal and moral ramifications of providing such are is also examined. This module will be delivered in one to five quarters in accordance with program and hospital affiliation agreements. Clinical opportunities will be available in critical care, emergency department, pediatrics, labor & delivery, operating room, psychiatric care, and EMS to meet the minimum regulatory requirements for occupational based instruction.

    Prerequisites: EMS 126, EMS 127, EMS 128, EMS 129, EMS 130, EMS 131, EMS 132, EMS 133, EMS 134, EMS 135, EMS 200A, MAT 1012 Corequisite: EMS 136, EMS 200B Prerequisites/Corequisites: AHS 1011, ENG 1010, SCT 100 This course occurs near the conclusion of the program. This is the final opportunity to integrate didactic, psychomotor skills and clinical instruction into the EMS leadership phase. In EMS leadership the student will be measured on how they perform as an entry-level paramedic. Classroom and lab performances will center on two-person teams were each student is assessed on assessment, initial resuscitation, scene choreography, treatment and patient presentation skills. This course includes summative case evaluations in the areas of trauma, medical and pediatrics. An oral examination will be administered as well as a comprehensive examination in EKG interpretation, pharmacology, trauma, medical, pediatric, obstetrical and gynecologic emergencies. A board examination review is also included.
