    Prerequisite: CRJ 101 with a minimum grade of "C" Introduces the substantive and procedural law of the criminal justice system from a constitutional perspective. The philosophical, political, and sociological dimensions of criminal law will be examined and discussed. Special emphasis will be placed on Georgia Criminal Code. Topics include: laws and procedures of arrest, search and seizure, trial regulations, administration of criminal sanctions; rules of evidence; general court procedures; rights and duties of officers and citizens; and Supreme and State Appellate Court rulings that apply to Criminal Justice and Constitutional Law.

    Prerequisites: CRJ 101, CRJ 104, and CRJ 105 with a minimum grade of "C" This course examines the critical issues involved in the duties and responsibilities of today's law enforcement agent. Emphasis will be on tactics, techniques, and skills associated with the dangers officer face daily in their careers. Topics include: life-saving, hazardous duty, public safety and self-protection, domestic violence, traffic enforcement, managing hostage situations, hazardous materials, search techniques, mechanics of arrests, levels of force, and stress management.

    Prerequisites: CRJ 101 and CRJ 105 with a minimum grade of "C" Presents the fundamental principles of criminal investigations including the practical and scientific methods of crime detection within law enforcement. Emphasis is placed on legal requirements and procedures of Georgia Criminal Law. Topics include: Georgia Criminal Law, common investigative techniques and procedures used for investigating various crimes, crime scene searches, identification and collection of evidence, note-taking and report writing, surveillance, identification of witnesses and suspects, interviews and interrogation, and preparation and presentation of evidence in court.

    Prerequisites: Program Admission, CRJ 101 and CRJ 105 with a minimum grade of "C" This course emphasizes the historical development of criminal law in the United States and the current status of Georgia criminal law. The main focus of the course will be the statutory contents of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated (O.C.G.A), with primary emphasis on the criminal and traffic codes.

    Prerequisites: Program Admission, CRJ 101 and CRJ 105 with a minimum grade of "C" Examines the constitution as it pertains to criminal law and procedure. Emphasize is placed on those provisions of the Bill of Rights which affect the Criminal Justice System pertaining to rules of law, procedures, and regulations. Topics include: characteristics and powers of the three branches of government, principles governing the interpretation and operation of the Constitution, case law, the Bill of Rights and Constitutional Amendments.

    Prerequisites: CRJ 101 with a minimum grade of "C" Examines the Juvenile Justice System in America its history, organization, and development. Analyzes the nature, extent, and causes of juvenile delinquency, and explores processes in the field of juvenile justice. Topics include: survey of juvenile law, comparative analysis of adult and juvenile justice systems, and prevention and treatment of juvenile delinquency.

    Prerequisites: CRJ 101, CRJ 104, CRJ 105, CRJ 168, CRJ 202, Advisor Approval Provides experiences necessary for further professional development and exposure to related agencies in the criminal justice field. The student will pursue a study project directed by the instructor within the institution, or an internship in a related agency supervised by the instructor subject to the availability of an approved site. Topics include: observation and/or participation in criminal justice activities and agency, criminal justice theory applications, and independent study project.

    Prerequisites: Program Admission, CRJ 101 with a minimum grade of "C" This course examines the critical issues involved in information management concepts related to the six critical homeland security mission areas. Students will analyze threat and vulnerability information, risk assessment, and crisis management and will discuss functions, responsibilities and policy related to information systems and the importance of integration of these systems and sharing of information.

    Prerequisites: Program Admission, CRJ 101 with a minimum grade of "C" This course provides an exploration of the field of criminal justice ethics, which broadly encompasses the history of justice and theories of morality and ethics. It includes the study of ethics from both the individual perspective and the organizational standpoint. Special attention will be given to concrete ethical issues and dilemmas which are encountered regularly by participants in the major components of the criminal justice system. Four areas of ethical decision making opportunities are therefore studied in this course, including: law enforcement ethics; correctional ethics; legal profession ethics; and policymaking ethics.

    Prerequisites: CRJ 101 and CRJ 105 with a minimum grade of "C" Introduces the criminal justice student to the increasingly rampant issues of computer piracy, identity theft, hacking, child pornography, and other crimes associated with computers. Emphasis will be placed on the observation and participation with computers and information technology in order to collect and preserve digital evidence, how to locate, investigate, and prosecute cyber-crime, jurisdictional issues and methodologies for more efficient prevention and prosecution of computer-related crime. Topics include: observation and/or participation in computer crime investigations, techniques and tactics, legal issues, and crime scene response.
