This course is designed to provide field experiences for a student enrolled in EDUC 2101, EDUC 2201, or EDUC 2301. This practicum will enable the student to participate in an observational, interviewing and an assistant capacity in the assigned classroom setting(s) for 20 clock hours. The student will observe all aspects of teaching including lesson planning, classroom set-up, scheduling, meetings, and basic teaching procedures. Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory grade. Corequisite: EDUC 2101, EDUC 2201, or EDUC 2301. (Spring)

Students are introduced to requirements for becoming a teacher in Texas, legal and ethical aspects of teaching, organization and structure of elementary schools, and methods of motivation and discipline in Early Childhood through 4th Grade classroom. Students observe and participate for one hour a week in assigned schools. Class 1. (Spring)

Students will observe, participate, and reflect on classroom experiences as a part of an educational experience that involves 20 hours of time beyond the course. As a part of the practicum, students will complete field experiences for a minimum of two hours a week for ten weeks in their certification area ECE-6, 4-8, 8-12, or all level Kinesiology. Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory grade. Corequisites: EDUC 3343. (Fall)

Students focus on the purposes of education, state and federal laws related to education, teacher and student rights and responsibilities, ethics, educational philosophy, effective schools research, equity and excellence in education, human developmental processes, classroom climate, the relationship of the school to the larger community, and requirements for teaching in Texas. Students will observe and participate in Early Childhood through 12th grade classrooms in assigned schools. Class 3. (Fall)

This course focuses on instructional design for the elementary and middle school classroom. Students will explore all phases of instructional planning, including modifications for exceptional learners. Other course topics will include authentic assessment, TEKS integration, thematic design, and content across the curriculum. Class 3. (Fall)

This course focuses on the synergistic relationship between home and learning environment in impacting student achievement. Course topics include preschool experiences in diverse settings, out-of-home care, models for strong parent-school-community partnerships, and effective social settings for learning. Class 3. (Fall)

Students focus on making mathematics and science meaningful to children. Objectives cover TEKS required to prepare teachers of mathematics and science in Texas, as well as national standards. Topics include use of manipulatives, use of technology, planning and evaluating developmentally appropriate lessons, direct instructions, cooperative learning, planning for diversity, and adaptations for special populations. Students observe, then design and teach mathematics and science lessons in elementary school classrooms. Class 3. (Fall)
