    Four hours credit. An exploration of the foundations necessary for mastery of the advanced topics of clinical practice out of the hospital. Describe and list the roles and responsibilities of advanced EMS personnel within the EMS system; apply the basic concepts of development, pathophysiology and pharmacology to assessment and management of emergency patients; be able to properly administer medication; communicate effectively with patients; and understand the medical/legal and ethical issues relating to EMS practice as well as the issues impacting the well being of the paramedic. Curriculum based on U.S. Department of Transportation National Standard Curriculum. 48 classroom hours and 32 laboratory hours. Prerequisites: EMT Basic and Current Provider CPR card, EMSP 1160, EMSP 1501. Co-requisites: EMSP 1261, EMSP 1355, EMSP 1356 and EMSP 2160.

    Five hours credit. Includes all the skill necessary to provide emergency medical care at a basic life support level with an ambulance service or other specialized services. Demonstrate a working knowledge of clinical information and related topics relevant to the practice of pre-hospital emergency medical care of the EMT-Basic level; demonstrate the ability to competently perform all applicable skills; and exhibit attitudes and behavior consistent with the ethics and professionalism expected of the EMT-Basic. 144 classroom and laboratory hours. Prerequisite is a current Health care provider CPR card. Corequisites is EMSP 1160.

    One hour credit. A health-related work-based learning experience that enables the student to apply specialized occupational theory, skills, and concepts. Direct supervision is provided by the clinical professional. As outlined in the learning plan, apply the theory, concepts, and skills involving specialized materials, tools, equipment, procedures, regulations, laws and interactions within and among political, economic, environmental, social, and legal systems associated with the occupation and the business/industry and will demonstrate legal and ethical behavior, safety practices, interpersonal and teamwork skills, and appropriate written and verbal communication skills using the terminology of the occupation and the business/industry. 64 clinical hours. Prerequisites: EMT Basic and Current Provider CPR card, Co-requisites: EMSP 1261, EMSP 1355, EMSP 1356, EMSP 1438.

    Two hours credit. The capstone course of the EMSP program. Designed to provide for teaching and evaluating comprehensive, assessment-based patient care management. Integrate pathophysiological principles and assessment findings to formulate a field impression; and implement a treatment plan for patients with common complaints. 64 classroom and laboratory hours. Prerequisites: EMT Basic and Current Provider CPR card, EMSP 2544. Co-requisites: EMSP 2462, EMSP 2430, EMSP 2434.

    Two hours credit. A health-related work-based learning experience that enables the student to apply specialized occupational theory, skills, and concepts.     Three hours credit. A detailed study of the knowledge and skills to safely manage the scene of an emergency. At the completion of this unit, the student will be able to safely manage medical incidents, rescue situations, hazardous materials and crime scenes. 48 classroom and laboratory hours. Prerequisites: EMT Basic and Current Provider CPR card, EMSP 1261, 1438, 1356, 1355, 2160. Co-requisites: EMSP 2261, EMSP 2348.
  • 3.00 Credits

    Three hours credit. A comprehensive course covering all aspects for the utilization of medications in treating emergency situations. Course is designed to compliment Cardiology, special Populations, and medical Emergency courses. 32 classroom hours and 32 laboratory hours. Prerequisites: EMT Basic and Current Provider CPR card, EMSP 1261, EMSP 1355, EMSP 1356, EMSP 1438 and EMSP 2160. Co-requisites: EMSP 2261, 2338.

    Four hours credit. A detailed study of the knowledge and skills necessary to reach competence in the assessment and management of ill or injured patients in nontraditional populations. Integrate pathophysiological principles and assessment findings to formulate a field impression and implement a treatment plan for diverse patients, such as neonatal, pediatric, and geriatric patients and chronically ill patients. Curriculum based on U.S. Department of Transportation national Standard Curriculum. 48 classroom hours and 32 laboratory hours. Prerequisites: EMT Basic and Current Provider CPR card, EMSP 2544. Co-requisites: EMSP 2434, 2462 and 2243.

    Four hours credit. A detailed study of the knowledge and skills in the assessment and management of patients with medical emergencies. Integrate pathothysiological principles and assessment findings to formulate a field impression and implement a treatment plan for the medical patient. Curriculum based on U.S. Department of Transportation National Standard Curriculum. 48 classroom and 48 laboratory hours. Prerequisites: EMT Basic and Current Provider CPR card, EMSP 2544. Co-requisites: EMSP 2430, EMSP 2462 and 2243.
