3.00 Credits
Three hours credit. This course is designed to facilitate development of the basic communication skills necessary to develop an effective helping relationship with clients. Includes the utilization of special skills to assist individuals, families, or groups in achieving objectives through exploration of a problem and its ramifications; examination of attitudes and feelings; consideration of alternative solutions and decision making. The student will demonstrate competency in basic communication skills; define and describe the appropriate use of skills of attending, paraphrasing, summarizing, probing, challenging, and counselor self-disclosure; and identify when each skill is being practiced effectively. The student will demonstrate the ability to use each skill and to integrate all skills appropriately and effectively in a simulated counseling situation; and describe and demonstrate differences in the application of counseling skills with clients of different ethic, age, and gender backgrounds. Prerequisite: DAAC 1311. Three lecture hours each week.

Three hours credit. Causes and consequences of addiction as they relate to individual, family, community, and society are discussed. Response alternatives regarding intervention, treatment, education, and prevention are reviewed. Competencies and requirements for licensure in Texas are explained. Addiction issues related to diverse populations are presented. The student will identify the drug classification system; and the psychological, sociological, and physiological effects of mood altering substances and behaviors; explain services and treatment alternatives; state various models which explain the etiology of addiction; and discuss issues related to drug regulations and enforcement in the United States; describe the goals of drug intervention, education, and prevention strategies; and identify the requirements for licensure and certification in Texas; define ethical standards governing the field of the addiction counselor; identify diversity issues related to addiction services and describe the continuum of care as related to alcohol and other drug abuse. Three lecture hours each week.

2.00 Credits
Two hours credit. Career related activities in the student's area of specialization are offered through a cooperative agreement between the college, employer and student. Under supervision of the college and the employer, the student combines classroom learning and work experience. Directly related to a technical discipline, specific learning objectives guide the student through the paid learning plan. The student will master the theory, concepts, and skills involving the tools, materials, equipment, procedures, regulations, laws and interactions within and among political, economic, environmental, and legal systems associated with a particular occupation and the business/industry; demonstrate ethical behavior, safety practices, interpersonal and teamwork skills, communicating in the applicable technical language of the occupation and the business or industry. Prerequisite: DAAC 1280, DAAC 1311 and PSYT 2331. Concurrent enrollment CMSW 1327 or PSYT 2301. Sixteen classroom hours and one hundred-fifty work experience hours reqired.

3.00 Credits
Three hours credit. Special skills and techniques in the application of counseling skills for the Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) client. Development and utilization of advanced treatment planning and management. Includes review of confidentiality and ethical issues, and use of treatment team approach. Current information on twelve step programming and rehabilitation treatment will be utilized. Students will be able to describe and demonstrate the central concepts of Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) counseling with individuals, groups and families. Students will be able to discuss issues of confidentiality and ethics as they apply to the AOD client. Students will be able to discuss and demonstrate the relationship between case management and AOD counseling including relapse prevention, self-help recovery programs, stress management, discharge planning, and aftercare. Prerequisite: DAAC 1319. Three lecture hours each week.

Four hours credit. An introduction to the basic principles of electrical systems of diesel powered equipment with emphasis on starters, alternators, batteries, and regulators. The students will perform circuit analysis; identify electrical symbols; use specials tools; and test circuits. Prerequisites or concurrent enrollment in: MATH 0310 and REDG 0310. Three lecture and two lab hours each week. Lab fee.

Four hours credit. An introduction to the basic principles of diesel engines and systems. The student will describe the history of diesel engines and diesel systems and their evolution; demonstrate knowledge of the basic principles of diesel systems and engines and how they function; and utilize precision instruments to diagnose and repair basic systems and engines. Prerequisites or concurrent enrollment in: MATH 0310 and REDG 0310. Two lecture and six lab hours each week. Lab fee.

Four hours credit. In-depth coverage of fuel injector pumps and injection systems with emphasis on operation and fuel flow. The student will identify various components of injector pumps and injectors as well as the components of the complete fuel system. Evaluation of injector pumps and injectors will be accomplished by the student using special tools for inspection and testing. Prerequisites or concurrent enrollment in: MATH 0310 and REDG 0310. Three lecture and two lab hours each week. Lab fee.

Four credit hours. In-depth coverage of the mechanics and theory of power trains. Emphasis on disassembly, inspection, and repair of power train components. Interpret power flow; assess component failure; and demonstrate ability to make power train component repairs. Three lecture and two lab hours each week. Lab fee.

Four hours credit. An in-depth coverage of disassembly, repair, identification, evaluation, and reassembly of diesel engines. The student will identify engine components and their working relationship to the engine; evaluate engine components by inspection, testing and/or measurement; and demonstrate disassembly and reassembly of the diesel engine. Prerequisite: DEMR 1406 and successful completion of or concurrent enrollment in: MATH 0310 and REDG 0310. Two lecture and six lab hours each week. Lab fee.
