Prerequisite: permission of department chair Students learn skills necessary to properly obtain blood specimens for lab testing. Included are safety precautions, collection equipment, venipuncture and skin puncture techniques, and special procedures. A passing grade of "C" is required inthis course. Prerequisite: MLT 1010/1010L, MLT 1020/1020L, MLT 1040/1040L, BIO 2010/2010L; plus MLT 2011L and MLT 2012/2012L must be taken in the same semester; and must be enrolled in the Medical Laboratory Technology program Students study the principles and methods of medical microbiology including the identification of etiologic agents recovered from clinical materials. A passing grade of "C" isrequired in this course. Offered days or evenings in the summer semester.

Also included is the identification of micro-organisms using different media and chemical determination. A passing grade of "C" is requiredin this course. Prerequisite: MLT 1010/1010L, MLT 1020/1020L, MLT 1040/1040L; plus MLT 2012L and MLT 2011/2011L must be taken in the same semester; and must be enrolled in the Medical Laboratory Technology program Students study the principles of immunohematology along with the practices of blood banking. Also studied are antigen and antibody formation, behavior, and reaction properties. The blood group antigens and antibodies are discussed at length. A passing grade of "C" is required in this course.Offered days or evenings in the summer semester.

Prerequisite: MLT 2012 and MLT 2011/2011L must be taken in the same semester; and must be enrolled in the Medical Laboratory Technology program Students learn and practice blood bank procedures including ABO, Rh-Hr typing and detection, identification of antibodies, antiglobulin testing, and compatibility testing. Also included are serological tests for syphilis, C Reactive Protein, and rheumatoid arthritis. A passing grade of "C" is required in thiscourse. Offered days or evenings in the summer semester. Prerequisite: MLT 1010/1010L, MLT 1020/1020L, MLT 1030, MLT 1040/1040L, MLT 2011/2011L, MLT 2012/2012L; plus MLT 2013L and MLT 2015 must be taken in the same semester; and must be enrolled in the Medical Laboratory Technology program Students study the chemistry of various chemical compounds and chemical processes involved in human physiology. Also studied are the theories, techniques, and sources of error in routine clinical chemistry procedures. A passing grade of "C"is required in this course. Offered days or evenings in the fall semester.

Prerequisite: MLT 1010/1010L, MLT 1020/1020L, MLT 1030, MLT 1040/1040L, MLT 2011/2011L, MLT 2012/2012L, MLT 2013/2013L, MLT-2015; plus MLT 2014L and MLT 2016 must be taken in the same semester; and must be enrolled in the Medical Laboratory Technology program Students study medically important fungi and parasites. Also studied are unclassified bacteria, mycobacteria, and some aspects of virology. A passing grade of "C" is required in thiscourse. Offered days or evenings in the spring semester.

Prerequisite: MLT 2014 and MLT 2016 must be taken in the same semester; and must be enrolled in the Medical Laboratory Technology program Students learn and practice techniques used to isolate and identify medically important fungi, parasites, and other organisms. Also included are anaerobic bacterial studies and antimicrobial susceptibility testing. A passing grade of "C" isrequired in this course. Offered days or evenings in the spring semester. Prerequisite: MLT 1010/1010L, MLT 1020/1020L, MLT 1030, MLT 1040/1040L, MLT 2011/2011L, MLT 2012/2012L; plus MLT 2013/2013L must be taken in the same semester; and must be enrolled in the Medical Laboratory Technology program Student work under supervision in a hospital/clinic laboratory. This experience allows the student to apply knowledge learned in the classroom in simulated employment.
