    1 credit hour This first semester course provides the EMT-P student with the knowledge and psychomotor skills essential for the application of advanced life support treatment modalities.

    1 credit hour This first semester course will provide the EMT-P student with advance airway management knowledge and psychomotor skills necessary for providing advanced life support treatment modalities. Skills will include, but are not limited to: nasotracheal intubation, orotracheal intubation, cricothyrotomy, thoracocentesis, etc.

    2 credit hours This first semester course will provide the EMT-P student with knowledge and skills necessary for providing advanced life support trauma treatment modalities. The student will learn to develop the processes associated with determining the mechanism of injury and how that mechanism relates to potential internal injuries the patient may have suffered, as well as decision making/critical thinking processes to formulate a treatment modality and apply such to a contrived patient situation.

    3 credits This second semester course will provide the EMTP student with knowledge and skills necessary for providing advanced life support treatment modalities associated with medical emergencies in the prehospital setting. Knowledge that will be attained in this course encompasses the fields of Pulmonology, Neurology, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Urology/ Nephrology, Toxicology/Substance abuse, Immunology, Hematology, Infectious disease, Psychiatric/ Behavioral disorders, Gynecology, Obstetrics, Neonatology, Pediatrics, Gerontology and Special Needs Patients. Students will develop processes associated with determining the pathophysiology of specific diseases, as well as decision making/critical thinking processes to formulate a treatment modality and apply such to a contrived patient situation.

    2 credit hours This second semester course will provide the EMTP student with knowledge and skills necessary for providing advanced cardiac life support treatment modalities to patients who may have suffered a cardiovascular related emergency. Knowledge that will be gained in this course will include: interpretation of electrocardiograms, application of cardiovascular pharmacology, and extensive application and practice of advance cardiac life support. Students will develop processes associate with determining the pathophysiology of cardiac diseases, as well as decision making/critical thinking processes to formulate a treatment modality and apply such to a contrived patient situation.

    1 credit hours This second semester course will provide the EMT-P student with the knowledge and skills necessary for providing care to patients with special needs to include: abuse/assault patients, hearing/visual/speech challenged patients, disabled patients and patients who are suffering an acute exacerbation of a chronic disease process. Students will develop processes associate with determining the pathophysiology of underlying disease processes, as well as decision making/critical thinking processes to formulate a treatment modality and apply such to a contrived patient situation.

    1 credit hour This second semester course will provide the EMTP student with extensive decision making/critical thinking practice necessary to formulate treatment modalities accurately and in a timely manner. Students will practice assessment, development of impression of current illness/es and treatment application during contrived patient situations.

    1 credit hour This second semester course will provide the EMT-P student with the knowledge and skills necessary for personal safety and safe application of patient care. This course will consist of ambulance operations, Incident management, Rescue awareness/operations, Hazardous Materials, Weapons of Mass Destruction and Crime Scene management training.
  • 2.00 Credits

    2 credit hours This second semester self-study course will provide the student with experience in conducting research on medical related subject matter. The student will conduct research leading to compilation of a 3-5 page research paper, on an "instructor approved"topic associated with treatment of a specific medical condition.

    2 credit hours This second semester self-study course will provide the student with experience in conducting research on new methods of delivery of patient care or new equipment/technology being developed for prehospital patient care. The student will conduct research leading to compilation of a 3-5 page research paper, on an "instructor approved" topic associatedwith the above stated areas.
