    5 3 2.5 This course is an introductory course focusing on the principles and skills essential to all levels of nursing practice. The selected universal needs of hygiene, activity/rest, safety, and elimination are included. Developmental needs of the older adult are discussed. Learning experiences are provided in the classroom and auto-tutorial lab, campus lab, and clinical settings. This course is not required for the Certified Nursing Assistant. Satisfactory (S) performance in clinical and the nursing lab, and a minimum grade of "C" in theory, are required in order to pass the course.     4 6 6 This course builds on NAD 100 and focuses on the study and practice of concepts and skills basic to nursing. Universal needs basic to all individuals are identified. The nursing process is introduced and serves as the foundation for the development of critical thinking skills. The three roles of the nurse - Provider of Care, Manager of Care, and Member within the Discipline - are introduced. Communication, teaching/learning skills, legal standards and ethical principles are included. Pharmacology principles and concepts of major drug classifications will be integrated as appropriate to the units of study. Learning experiences are provided in the classroom and auto-tutorial lab, campus lab, and clinical settings. Satisfactory (S) performance in clinical and the nursing lab, and a minimum grade of "C" in theory, are required in order to pass the course.     5.5 12 9.5 This course builds on concepts, skills, and theory learned in NAD 100 and NAD 115 and includes care of the adult client with selected common health problems. Students are provided an opportunity to utilize theoretical knowledge, the nursing process, and nursing skills in clinical settings. Critical thinking serves as the framework for exploring ethical and legal issues. Communication and teaching/learning skills are further developed within the roles of Manager of Care and Member within the Discipline. Pharmacology principles and concepts of major drug classifications will be integrated as appropriate to the units of study.     2 1.5 2.5 This course will provide an avenue of instruction for licensed practical nurses and LPN program graduates who wish to obtain an Associate Degree in Nursing. The course will be built on previous knowledge from the LPN's basic nursing program. The course will include theory on role transition, basic skills, intravenous therapy, and therapeutic communication. The LPNs entering the course have basic competencies, and the course will build on these competencies through laboratory practice and clinical practicum as well as include new skills required for successful transition to the Associate Degree Nursing program. The course will prepare the student for the role of RN as a provider of care, member of the discipline, and manager of care. It will include ethical/legal issues, cultural factors affecting practice, and the nursing process application. Offered: Summer Prerequisite: Licensed Practical Nurse or successful completion of an accredited approved practical nursing program with a grade of "C" or better in all nursing courses; successful completion of NUT 110, ENG 101, BIO 211, BIO 212, PSY 101 and PSY 265 with a grade of "C" or better.
