3 credits Movement education is analyzed, observed, applied, and demonstrat ed as a viable means of interdisciplinary education. Education through and by physical activity is a focal point of the course. Class content includes: accomplishing student needs and objectives, conceptual learn ing of motor skills, teaching and analyzing movement skills, class organi zation and management techniques, safety and liability in the classroom, and meeting needs for special students. Course is geared for grades pre school through grade 8. Offered: 2008 - 2010.

3 credits Designed to provide students with the human knowledge, under standing, and skills related to human developmental processes. Instruction will be in accordance with all applicable Education Law sec tions. Emphasis is placed on helping children to make informed choices about issues that affect the quality of life. Topics include: personal health and safety (including AIDS and other STDs); diet and nutrition, fire and arson safety; identification and understanding of abusive relationships; quality of life issues related to alcohol, tobacco, and drug free environ ments; developing an awareness of and a commitment to a sense of "com munity" and respect for others; anddevelopment of sensitivity to the effect of culture, heritage, and socioeconomic level on individuals in society. 3 credits This course provides students with the basic knowledge and skills necessary when emergency first aid is required and medical assistance is not immediately available. It also incorporates personal safety and acci dent prevention information. Topics and training included in: defibrillator use; cardiopulmonary resuscitation; respiratory emergencies; wounds, wound care and hemorrhaging; extremity injuries; athletic injury care; soft tissue injuries; concussions and other severe brain trauma; spinal cord injury; heart attacks and strokes; special illnesses: epilepsy (seizures), and diabetes; environmental emergencies; water emergencies; poisoning and substance abuse emergencies; and more. New York State and American Red Cross Certified. Offered: 2008 - 2010.

3 credits This course is designed to educate students on the mechanisms and understanding of what stress is, its effects on their health and everyday life. To provide students with learning skills and techniques to help one reduce and cope with stress more effectively. To develop an understand ing of the impact that stress has on one's health, both physical and emo tional, and to be able to recognize and practice measures to insure a more healthy lifestyle. 3 credits A study of the psychological, sociological, and philosophical factors that influence behavior of sport participants. Emphasis is directed towards ways and means by which these factors may be best understood and applied by coaches and sport managers. 3 credits A course designed to provide the student with theories, concepts, and practical aspects related to the factors affecting the dynamics of human behavior in sport performance. Students will develop a knowledge base that will allow them to understand the critical importance of the psycho social factors affecting both the individual athlete and the team. 3 credits This course explores the effects that physical activity and related factors have on athletic performance. Students will investigate the physiological basis for exercise and training, with special emphasis on the skeletal, car dio-respiratory, and neuromuscular systems.
