3 credits Designed to provide students with the human knowledge, under standing, and skills related to human developmental processes. Instruction will be in accordance with all applicable Education Law sec tions. Emphasis is placed on helping children to make informed choices about issues that affect the quality of life. Topics include: personal health and safety (including AIDS and other STDs); diet and nutrition, fire and arson safety; identification and understanding of abusive relationships; quality of life issues related to alcohol, tobacco, and drug free environ ments; developing an awareness of and a commitment to a sense of "com munity" and respect for others; anddevelopment of sensitivity to the effect of culture, heritage, and socioeconomic level on individuals in society.
