    Historical influences, current issues, and trends for the future to understand the evolution of the profession. Nursing and the registered nurse's role, responsibilities and opportunities in the health care delivery system. (2 cr. hrs.) (Fall, Spring, Summer). Prerequisite: Eligibility to enter NURS 2100 or NURS 2500. Writing in content area.

    This is the third in a sequence of four nursing courses, which builds on previously acquired skills and knowledge. The focus is on chronic health problems across the life span related to the physiological and psychosocial needs of the client within the legal and ethical parameters of the nursing profession. (9 cr. hrs.) (Fall). Prerequisites: NURS 1500; SCIN 1010-1020 with grades of C+ or higher; CPR certification through American Heart Association course "Health Care Provider" or American RedCross "Basic Life Support for the Professional Rescuer," and an updated health form must be maintained throughout the program. Grades of C or higher are required in BIOL 2020-2030 and either BIOL 2010 or CHEM 1010, 1020, 1510, alternative science courses that meet program requirements. General Assembly Session (4 hrs./wk.), Small Assembly Sessions (2 hrs./wk.), hospital laboratory (11 hrs./wk.). Labs can be assigned during day, evening and/or weekend hours. During planned mental health/community experiences, lab times may change. Some Internet/WebCT assignments are required in the course. A grade of C or higher is required to continue in the program; satisfactory and safe performance in the lab is required to pass the course. Health insurance is required. Liability insurance, lab fee, testing fee and course fee. A required orientation will be held prior to the start of the semester.

    Critical thinking concepts and nursing process are applied to client care situations using a case study format. Includes acute care and long-term care situations. Incorporates study of both the individual and support system. Reinforces concepts from previous nursing courses including growth and development, physiology, and psychosocial theory. Focus on endocrine, cardiovascular and hematologic health problems. (1 cr. hr.) (Fall). Co-requisite: NURS 2100. Considered a nursing elective for the Nursing Program.

    Introduction to cardiac dysrhythmias, IV medications, acid-base disorders, and ventilators. (1 cr. hr.) (ASN). Prerequisite: NURS 2100. Considered a nursing elective for the Nursing Program.

    A review of the basic cardiac dysrhythmias, drugs used specifically in critical care settings, acid-base disorders, management of a client on mechanical ventilation. (3 cr. hrs.) (ASN). Prerequisite: NURS 2100. Lecture/laboratory.

    Reviews theory and skills from Nursing I & II to prepare re-entering students for Nursing III. (1 cr. hr.) (Fall). Fee $10. Not considered a nursing or free elective for the Nursing program.

    This is the fourth and final course of the Nursing program which builds on previously acquired skills and knowledge and focuses on the physiological and psychosocial needs of the client within the legal and ethical parameters of the nursing profession. The focus is on concepts of client care management and the role of entry-level nurse. NCLEX preparation for the licensure exam is included in this course. (9 cr. hrs.) (Spring). Prerequisites: NURS 2100 and successful completion of all required science courses. CPR certification through American Heart Association "Health Care Provided" or American Red Cross"Basic Life Support for the Professional Rescuer" andan updated health form must be maintained throughout the program. General Assembly Session (4 hrs./wk.), Small Assembly Sessions (2 hrs./wk.), hospital laboratory (11 hrs/wk). Labs can be assigned during day, evening and/or weekend hours. During planned mental health/community health experiences, lab times may change. The last two weeks of the semester will include 48 hours of clinical that may be days/evenings/ weekends. Some Internet/WebCT assignments are required in the course. A grade of C or higher is required to graduate from the program. Satisfactory and safe performance in the lab is required to pass the course. Health insurance is required. Liability insurance, lab fee, testing fee, course fee, and NCLEX test fee.
