-
2.00 Credits
2 credit hours Students become familiar with medical devices used in caring for patients with cardiopulmonary problems. This course requires an understanding of physics to mechanically regulate pressures, gas flow, compliance, resistance elasticity, and conductance. Students learn safe operation of equipment, and equipment troubleshooting, in the treatment of adults, pediatrics and neonates. Prerequisite: RSCR-0220, Introduction to Respiratory Care.
-
3.00 Credits
3 credit hours Students learn to identify signs and symptoms of respiratory distress and to respond with appropriate technical intervention. Theory and application of physical inspection, airway care, positive pressure breathing, and pulmonary hygiene are covered in this lecture/lab class. Prerequisite: RSCR-0224, Therapeutic Interventions I or consent of instructor.
-
4.00 Credits
4 credit hours Students become familiar with respiratory tests used to identify a variety of lung problems. Methods to determine the severity of breathing and airway conditions are discussed. Respiratory care techniques to measure airway flow rates, lung volumes, blood gas values, and cardiopulmonary lab values are studied. Prerequisite: RSCR-0225, Cardiopulmonary Care & Diagnostics I or consent of instructor.
-
4.00 Credits
4 credit hours This clinic/lab class is designed to develop clinical proficiencies in performing adult, child, and infant cardiopulmonary care. Emphasis is on student learning and participation in critical care monitoring, cardiopulmonary laboratory techniques, airway management, and positive pressure ventilation. Students make rounds with respiratory care practitioners and physicians to develop critical thinking skills related to physical assessment and care plans.
-
1.00 Credits
1 credit hour The student develops a case study integrating data covering respiratory care technology, applications of medical devices, and patient response to technical intervention. Emphasis is on the student's affective ability to collect data, reference literature, evaluate as well as use equipment, and explain clinical significance of the information compiled.
-
3.00 Credits
3 hours credit Students learn the function, operation, and application of cardiopulmonary equipment including pneumatic devices, ventilators, and transport units. Technical operation to modes of ventilation, alarm parameters, and monitoring systems is emphasized. Prerequisite: Program Sequence.
-
1.00 Credits
1 hour credit Students apply their cumulative respiratory therapy program experience to critical care and mechanical ventilation scenarios and problems. Students take a comprehensive view of entrylevel respiratory care. Students prepare for the National Board for Respiratory Care, NBRC, Certified Respiratory Therapist, CRT, Board Exam. Prerequisite: Program Sequence.
-
4.00 Credits
4 hours credit Students perform rounds with physicians and therapists in critical care settings. In this applications-oriented class/clinic, students become familiar with mechanical ventilation and other respiratory care responsibilities in life threatening situations. Adult and child applications are covered.
-
4.00 Credits
4 hours credit In this therapeutic intervention course the emphasis is advanced cardiopulmonary procedures in the critical care setting. Students learn management of life support systems, including mechanical ventilation, advanced cardiac life support, and difficult airway management. Students establish and develop their clinical competencies on rotations with physicians and therapists. Clinical areas included are: surgery, post anesthesia care unit, intensive care, emergency room, and long-term ventilator weaning unit.
-
4.00 Credits
4 hours credit The student learns advanced cardiopulmonary life support standards, critical care concepts, hemodynamic monitoring, special procedures related to mechanical ventilation, neonatal mechanical ventilation, and home mechanical ventilation. Development of care plans and recommendations for therapy are key elements for this applications orientated class. Prerequisite: Program Sequence.
