This course is designed to effectively engage the student in an active interest in the profession of physical therapy. Lab fee. Pass with a C or better. Prerequisite: Permission of instructor.

(1 credit) (20 contact hours of lecture/lab) Provides an overview of the profession of physical therapy and a basic understanding of the theory and clinical skills necessary to function in the fi eld of physical therapy in a variety of rehabilitation settings. The course introduces topics to familiarize the student with physical therapy history and evolution, cultural diversity and competence, and domestic violence. An understanding of ethical and legal issues affecting the physical therapy profession is taught, with special regard for patient's rights to confi dentiality and dignity. This course is designed to engage the student in an active interest in the profession of physical therapy. Introductory elements of physical therapy profession explored in this course are developed and expanded in the Phase II of the PTA program's curricula. Pass with a C or better.

(4 credits) (60 contact hours of lecture) This is an independent study and an individualized style course. It provides an academic review of all elements of a physical therapist assistant program. It is mandatory for students who cannot pass the PTA Comprehensive Examination at the end of the PTA program. It is recommended for students who need to pass the licensure exam on the fi rst attempt. Pass with a C or better. Prerequisite: PHT 2820L. (3 credits) (60 contact hours of lecture & lab) This course is an introduction to the basics of therapeutic exercises including passive, active, active-assistive, passive stretching, and resistive exercises and activities. Exploration of the variety of modes of exercises applying concurrent information of kinesiology principles and also considering patient/client safety. Offers a foundational knowledge about the types, uses, and methods of various exercise programs in relation to major disabilities. Lab fee. Pass with a C or better.
