(3 credits) SP This is an introductory course for EMS instructors or training offi cers focusing on program design, teaching methods, student objectives and basic testing/measurement techniques as they apply to EMS training.

(3 credits) Students will be introduced to the modes of discourse (Narrative, Argument, etc.) and be required to write sentences and paragraphs targeted at those modes. Focus will also be on preparing students for the multiple choice section of the State exit exam. Students must pass this course with a C or better, and pass the state exit exam, before going on to ENC 0020. Includes mandatory one hour per week in Learning Lab. Lab fee. Prerequisite: CPT score of 20-59. Corequisite: SLS 1101.

(3 credits) This course prepares students for Freshman Composition. It is an extensive study of paragraph and essay structure, grammar, and punctuation. Graduation to Freshman Composition is contingent upon passing this class with a C or better, and passing the state exit exam. Includes mandatory one hour per week in Learning Lab. Lab fee. Prerequisite: ENC 0010 with a C or better. A CPT score of 60-82. Corequisite: SLS 1101.

(3 credits) GE, GR Stresses content and structure development of essays. Includes methods of research and documentation styles (MLA, APA, etc.) as well as application of formal grammatical usage. Prerequisite: Completion of ENC 0020 and REA 0002 with a C or better or score out on appropriate placement test.

(3 credits) GE, GR, MC Continues the study of composition, with emphasis directed toward appreciation of imaginative literature. Focuses on short stories, poetry, and drama. Students demonstrate ability to analyze, understand, and evaluate literature. Prerequisite: ENC 1101 with a grade of C or better.

(3 credits) Practical writing course dealing with abstracts, resumes, short reports (travel, lab, progress, etc.), proposals, and research. Use of graphic materials appropriate to professional papers and presentations are also included. Prerequisite: Completion of REA 0002 and ENC 0020 with a C or better or score out on appropriate placement test.

(3 credits) GE, GR Survey of British Literature from its beginnings to 1800. Part I of a two-semester survey emphasizing Old English, Middle English, Renaissance, The Restoration, and Neoclassicism. Prerequisite: ENC 1101.

(3 credits) This module explores the area of discipline in the classroom setting. Various policies, procedures and approaches to discipline used by teachers and administrators of schools, with particular emphasis on Florida schools and the local districts served by this institution. While there are no prerequisites, students should be aware that reading and writing are important parts of the course. This is a required module in the alternative certification process as mandated by the state of Florida.
