The emphasis in this course is essay writing, focusing upon organizing ideas that support a thesis statement. This course requires intensive practice in writing the timed essay. This course also reviews the skills learned in GED 921 and 922. (R2)

3 hours weekly This course is designed for students who are preparing to take the Social Studies portion of the GED exam. Students enrolled in this course should have at least a fifth grade reading level. Topics include U.S. history, political science, geography, economics, and behavioral sciences. Additional emphasis on vocabulary building for Social Studies will be included (R2)

3 hours weekly This course is designed for students wishing to take the Science portion of the GED exam. The course covers an overview of basic knowledge of physics, chemistry, space science, earth science, and biology as well as practice in test taking skills. Course themes include change, conservation of mass and energy, interactions, relationships, and time and space. Additional emphasis is placed on developing a scientific vocabulary. Students enrolled in this class need at least a fifth grade reading level. (R2)

3 hours weekly This course is designed for students who are preparing to take the Literature and Arts portion of the GED. Students should have at least a fifth grade reading level. Topics include popular and classical literature including fiction, poetry, and drama as well as prose and nonfiction readings focusing upon workplace and practical topics such as reading editorials, training manuals, etc. Additional emphasis will be placed on vocabulary building for literature and arts. 3 hours weekly This course is designed for students who are preparing to take the GED test. Topics include developing and improving skills in the following areas: listening, notetaking, study and reading strategies, reading comprehension, memory, use of study aids, time management, guessing strategies, multiple choice tests, essay tests, and subject-specific test taking strategies. In addition, students will develop skills in locating and evaluating Internet sites which focus upon practical and work place topics and study skills. Moreover, emphasis will be placed on actual GED test practice simulations with time constraints. (R2)

3 hours weekly This course is designed to prepare students to take the GED test. Words selected as the core list of GED vocabulary are found in literature and the arts, social studies, and science and other content areas covered on the GED test. Practice exercises and cumulative reviews are an integral part of the course. Vocabulary words covered in the course are grouped according to parts of speech to reinforce concepts presented in the sequence of writing classes. (R2)

1 unit 3 hours weekly Prerequisite: Completion of GEOG 101 or concurrent enrollment. Provides students with a "hands-on"introduction to the processes at work shaping Earth's surfaces. This class provides an introduction to the methods used to present spatial relationships found in our physical environment. Students will identify, explore, analyze, and compare methods used in mapping and expressing spatial relationships. Students will develop fundamental geographic skills that can be used in a variety of professional situations. (CSU, UC, AVC)
