    4 units 4 hours weekly Prerequisite: Eligibility for College Level Reading and ENGL 099, and Completion of FTV 101 and FTV 121. Advisory: Completion of FTV 134. The course guides students through the writing and pre-production processes of making a short film. Students learn methods and techniques of screenwriting and project development. Emphasis is placed on exercising sound business and management practices when planning a production. Students will develop a story concept into a shooting script, create storyboards and a shot list, assemble cast and crew, and plan and schedule a film shoot. (CSU, AVC)

    4 units 6 hours weekly Prerequisite: Completion of FTV 242. This course guides students through production and post-production processes of making a short film. Students learn methods and techniques of taking a project through production and shooting, post-production, and distribution. Topics includes blocking and staging, camera rehearsals, creating shot lists, call sheets, organizing a shooting plan, crew positions and responsibilities, set procedures and protocol, mise-en-scene, picture editing, sound design, titles and festivals. Emphasis is placed on students developing sound business and management practices within a creative production environment. (CSU, AVC)

    (formerly COMM 236) 4 units 4 hours weekly Advisory: Completion of FTV 101, and Eligibility for College Level Reading and ENGL 101. This course introduces students to contemporary American independent film and its makers. Students examine both the positive and negative factors that influence filmmaking outside the Hollywood studio system as well as how independent themes communicate different messages about American culture to audiences. The course pays particular attention to a rising wave of women, minority, and gay and lesbian filmmakers producing short and feature narrative, documentary, and experimental film and video.     (formerly COMM 236/ENGL 267) 4 units 5 hours weekly Advisory: Completion of FTV 101, and Eligibility for College Level Reading and ENGL 101. This course challenges students to consider and analyze the way religious ideas and institutions are presented in contemporary cinema. Students examine the social implications of film on American values and culture. The course demonstrates the power of cinematic images to define, enrich, and sometimes pervert the human experience.     16 hours total This short-term intensive four-week refresher course is designed to prepare students for the GED math sequence of classes and to reintroduce students to the basic facts that will allow them to refresh their knowledge of basic math concepts. This course covers the following: math vocabulary, quick refresh of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division facts; quick refresh of basic properties of operation (commutative, associative, distributive, identity, and zero property); quick review of order of operations.     16 hours total This short-term intensive four-week refresher course is designed to prepare students to understand and slove word problems for the math part of the GED test. This course targets specific strategies to solve different kinds of math word problems such as number and age problems, geometry problems, mixture and solution problems, motion problems, investment problems, etc. Students will be introduced to the sequential process of reading and comprehending math problems, translating math word problems into math terms, solving the problem, and interpreting the results.     16 hours total This short-term intensive four-week refresher course is designed to prepare students to use calculators for the math part of the GED exam and real life situations. This course covers: calculator features, functions, and step-by-step operations to accomplish different tasks. Special emphasis is on usage of calculator for solving math problems for the GED test and facilitating computations in real life situations such as balancing a checkbook, computing an average value, comparing interest, budgeting, etc. (R2)

    16 hours total This short-term intensive four-week refresher course is designed to prepare students to enter the sequence of GED writing classes. This course covers the following topics: basic spelling rules, basic spelling patterns, variations for English sounds, rules for adding prefixes and suffixes, creating compound words, and commonly confused words and exceptions. All spelling words will be taken from the core list of GED spelling words found on the GED test. (R2)

    16 hours total This short-term intensive four-week refresher course is designed to prepare students to enter the GED sequence of writing classes and to review simple grammar used on the GED test. This course reviews the eight parts of speech and covers forming regular and irregular nouns and verbs. Students will also review and practice forming superlative and comparative adjectives and adverbs. Capitalization and simple punctuation will be reviewed and practiced. (R2)

    16 hours total This short-term intensive four-week refresher course is designed to prepare students to develop additional study tools to enter the sequence of GED classes. This course covers basic use of dictionary and thesaurus tools to increase ease, speed and accuracy in use of essential study tools for the GED classes. The core list of 800 spelling words for the GED test will be used as source material in practice exercises. (R2)
