3.00 Credits
This course is a survey of the invertebrate and vertebrate phyla with emphasis on taxonomy, anatomy and physiology, behavior, ecology, life histories and phylogeny. Three lecture hours per week. Prerequisite: BIO 103, BIO 102, BIO 105, and BIO 106. Designated professional studies.
-
3.00 Credits
This course will examine the global environmental problems associated with human population, species loss, soil erosion and desertification, air and water pollution, acid precipitation, ozone layer depletion, waste management, and a sustainable society. These issues will be examined from a scientific viewpoint and placed in context of the cultural, religious, gender and socio-economic aspects that influence these issues. This course will ask the student to identify possible solutions after careful study of environmental problems and to involve the student in some of these solutions. Course meets diversity requirement. Prerequisite: Any college level 3 hour Biology; Physical Science, or Environmental Science course. Designated professional studies.
-
1.00 Credits
A survey of the invertebrate and vertebrate fauna; emphasis on taxonomy and identification. Special emphasis is upon dissection detailing morphological relationships. Two laboratory hours per week. Pre or Co-requisite: BIO 304. Designated professional studies.
-
3.00 Credits
This course is a study of the multidisciplinary study of the structure and function of the environment. Topics include ecosystems, energy cycles, food chains, nutrient cycles, global climatic patterns and the effects of pollution and other human activities on these systems. Three hours of lecture per week. Prerequisite: BIO/BIOL 8 hours, CHEM 170 and CHEM 171; co-requisites: CHEM 175 and CHEM 176. Also listed as ENV 304. Designated professional studies.
-
1.00 Credits
This course is a hands-on study of ecological techniques used to monitor water and air quality soil analysis and may include field trips. Two laboratory hours per week. Prerequisite: BIO/BIOL 8 hours, CHEM 170 and CHEM 171; co-requisites: CHEM 175 and CHEM 176. Also listed as ENV 305. Designated professional studies.
-
3.00 Credits
Topics courses are designed to allow for study of well defined areas within the discipline that are not treated in regular coursework. Since prerequisites will vary among courses, students should refer to each semester's Schedule of Academic Offerings before registering for a topics course. Designated professional studies.
-
3.00 Credits
A study of the relationship of cell structures to specialized cell functions, including growth, differentiation, biochemical activities and physiological behavior. Three hours lecture per week. Prerequisite: CHEM 175 and BIO 225 and BIO 226. Designated professional studies.
-
3.00 Credits
Basic concepts concerning the interrelationships of organisms and their environments are taught in this course. Topics: adaptations of plants and animals to their environments; animal behavior; predator-prey behaviors; population and community structure, function, and dynamics; food webs; energy and nutrient flow. Some field trips are required. Three hours of lecture, lab or field work per week. Prerequisite: eight hours of biological science. Also listed as ENV 312. Designated professional studies.
-
