    6 credits The student continues to work in an appropriate setting for an average of 15-18 hours per week for the full semester under the supervision of an experienced professional. Field placement settings include community service organizations, residential group homes, recreation agencies, schools, family support agencies, courts, and after-school programs depending upon the individual's career goals. The student meets with A Lesley College supervisor for A two-hour seminar to examine issues arising from the student's field experience and to relate these issues to theories of child development and social policy. Prerequisites: Minimum grade of C in CCHST 3401; A 2.3 cumulative grade point average in required courses; an overall cumulative grade point average of 2.0, or permission of the practicum coordinator. A grade of C must be achieved to fulfill the requirements of the Child Studies major.

    1 credit This course combines principles of information literacy with hands-on exploration of the World Wide Web and other internet resources. Students will learn the different ways information is organized on the internet, how to locate information using search tools, and how to evaluate and apply the information to their coursework.

    3 credits Computers operate using large quantities of information. This course considers techniques for organizing and analyzing information using different types of spreadsheets and database software. In addition, students work with graphing software to explore visual representation of data as A means for organizing and displaying information.

    3 credits This course combines design principles, creative problem solving, art and cultural history, and the use of the computer as A tool for creating visual art. The classes will be structured around A series of visual problems that require research, creative thinking, and computer skills. Through these exercises, students will develop personal and innovative visual thinking and problem solving skills. Projects will include both print presentation and computer presentation, and the graphic issues of both media will be constantly compared. Prerequisite: CCOMP 2540 or permission of the instructor.

    3 credits This course focuses on applications for the internet and the World Wide Web, including web browsers, e-mail, chat rooms, and multi-user environments. Students will use A variety of tools to develop web pages and graphics. The social and cultural impact of the internet will be examined through readings and discussions. Prerequisite: CCOMP 2540 or permission of the instructor.

    3 credits This course is an introduction to the use of the Macintosh computer as A tool for producing A wide variety of printed materials. Students will learn basic design principles and skills through hands-on projects such as business cards, newsletters, brochures, and other publications. Adobe PageMaker, Photoshop, and Illustrator will be used to combine text, images, and graphics. Prerequisite: CCOMP 2540 or permission of the instructor.

    3 credits This course introduces students to basic animation techniques using the Macintosh computer. Both the history of animation and current practice are examined. Examples viewed in class include independent and experimental animation from around the world. Students create A variety of projects from simple flip books to more complex animated sequences with characters, objects, moving backgrounds, and soundtracks. Prior knowledge of filmmaking and drawing is not necessary. Emphasis is on personal creativity and vision. Students will be expected to devote extensive time outside of class to completing projects. Prerequisite: CCOMP 2540 or permission of the instructor.

    3 credits The student serves as A teaching assistant to the faculty member who has accepted them. The course includes both studying the process of planning, implementing, and evaluating the course curriculum, and assisting with the preparation and teaching of the course. The course is recommended for students interested in studying a particular subject in more depth, and for those wishing to participate in the planning and teaching process.
