Study and analysis of the principles and practices of advertising: its functions in our society, its role in business, its challenges and the creative opportunities that exist in the field of advertising. This course will open with an overview of customer service concepts. A variety of topics will be covered including: identifying customer behavior, determining customer needs through active listening, becoming an effective verbal and non-verbal communicator, honing telephone customer service skills, handling difficult customers, offering customer service within a diverse organizational environment, encouraging customer loyalty, and practicing service recovery. During the last four weeks of the course, the student will complete a 3-hour per week on-campus internship in a "customer service"setting. The class will meet as a group one hour per week to discuss progress, critique skills attained, and formulate problem-solving techniques using the "real-world" situations encountered during the internship . Prerequisite: None/ 3 credits.

This course explores the principles of sales, promotional goals and processes as they relate to the total marketing program of the organization. Students examine advertising, personal selling, sales promotion and publicity as promotional techniques. Prerequisite: MKT100, MKT106, and MKT112 / 3 credits.

Work experience with emphasis in the career of marketing. 300 hours of practical training in a profit or non-profit entity. Joint evaluation of a student's work by employers and business faculty member. Limited to students enrolled in the Marketing concentration. Prerequisite: MKT100 / 3 credits.

Through a combination of classroom and laboratory instruction, this course provides an introduction to Swedish massage therapy theory and skills. Topics include those necessary for a competent performance of a basic, fullbody, therapeutic massage. Students will also learn passive exercise and seated massage. Synthesis of practitioner's intention, critical thinking, assessment and skillful therapeutic massage application is emphasized. Limited to matriculated Massage Therapy students. Co-requisite: BIO105 / 4 credits.

Through lecture and laboratory practice, this one-credit course provides an introduction to Shiatsu that increases the massage therapy student's versatility and treatment choices when working with clients and their presenting conditions. Focus is on the concepts of ki, yin and yang, five-element theory, and how to access the body's life-force energy to facilitate health through pressure point (tsubo) work. Preference will be given to matriculated massage therapy students; others if space is available. It is recommended that the student complete MTC135 (HEA135) prior to this course. Twenty combined lecture and lab hours. Prerequisite: None / 1 credit.

It is vital to safe and therapeutic practice of massage that the student understands the common pathologic conditions that may be present in clients. This course will present these diseases and conditions as they appear in the systems of the body. Students will participate in discussions involving the impact, precautions, and massage treatment plans for selected conditions. Limited to matriculated Massage Therapy students. Prerequisite: BIO105 / 3 credits.
