The foundation of this course is the correct use of the variables applied in proper and appropriate tourism development. Topics include analysis of tourism supply components; local, regional and national government agencies; the social and economic implications for the residents of the host community; and visitor impact and implications. An analysis of destination infrastructure and super-structure issues as well as natural resource, capital and economic implications, with particular emphasis on employment issues, are discussed. Prerequisite: HRM140 / 3 credits.

This course introduces students to the process and methodologies of planning, operating and evaluating a group tour package. Students learn various methods of selling, packaging, operating and promoting a group tour to select markets and the general public. Students are provided with the skills to operate a group tour movement; negotiate with suppliers; meet contractual responsibilities; handle reservations, documentation, legal responsibilities, and the ramifications of group tour management. The role and responsibility of the tour escort before, during, and after the tour is examined. Prerequisite: None / 3 credits.

This course focuses on front desk operations and management's relationship to the front office. Methods of revenue management are applied to areas of price structure, occupancy patterns and income. Legal contract and liability issues specific to the lodging industry are also covered. Prerequisite: HRM140 / 3 credits. Offered in the Fall.

Marketing of hospitality industry is studied through the exercise of strategic marketing planning. Understanding of the marketing concept and how it is applied to the mission statement, research techniques, situation analysis, positioning, and the tools of marketing. Prerequisite: HRM140 and ENL101 / 3 credits. Offered in the Spring.

As the capstone course for HRM students, the focal point of this course is the planning, organizing and execution of special events that include: a theme, specialized menu, entertainment, dining room decorations, and uniforms reflected in the actualities of the hospitality industry. Beyond food purchasing, production and services, students will be responsible for revenue control and analysis. Group work, as a class and in individual specialized groups, emphasizes completing assigned tasks. Students will serve meals prepared in a restaurant setting during the course of the semester. (2 class hours / 2 laboratory hours) Limited to HRM students. Prerequisite: CUL100 or HRM140 / 3 credits. Offered in the Spring.

The core content of this course involves 300 hours of monitored field experience which is consistent with the student's career goals. Students will keep journals and write proscribed 'analysis' papers as they progress duringthe course of the semester. Prerequisite: 9 credits in CUL/HRM curriculum / 3 credits. Offered in the Fall, Spring and Summer.

This course is an introduction to humanistic studies; it examines works of the human spirit (in music, painting, philosophy, sculpture, architecture, drama, poetry) which have influenced our civilization and who we are as individuals. Students will explore various aspects of alcoholism and its treatment in an effort to develop the basic skills necessary for counselors to effectively work with persons affected by this disease. Students will be involved with simulated experiences that parallel the recovery process and will be provided with various helping skill options to assist those suffering with alcoholism. Prerequisite: None / 3 credits.

This course is designed to provide a broad range of practical and theoretical information about alcoholism as a major disease. It will enable students to realistically assess its impact upon themselves, family, friends, jobs and the community. Students will examine and evaluate the use versus the abuse of alcohol, the cause of alcoholism and the methods of prevention, recognition and treatment. This course may be used to document mandatory Continuing Education Units required for nursing. Prerequisite: None / 3 credits.
