This elective course focuses on exploration of issues concerning the dying process, grief, loss and bereavement. Concepts related to psychosocial needs of clients and caregivers are addressed incorporating diversity of culture, ethnicity, gender, and age. Legal and ethical issues related to professional practice are emphasized.

This course studies legal and ethical issues in nursing practice. it includes a study of frameworks and guidelines for using critical thinking in making ethical decisions and resolving ethical dilemmas. relevant laws, codes of ethics, ethical theories, and ethical principles are examined.

This course prepares health care and public service workers as first responders in the events of disaster and terrorism. Topics covered include disasters (natural and man-made), planning for disasters managing casualties, organization and implementation of disaster response, and the first responder's role during disaster situations.

Taken concurrently with ns G460, selected concepts of com-munity/ public health nursing that form the theoretical foundation for population/community health practice are studied. Problem solving and creative/critical thinking activities are used to analyze issues, trends and practices of the public health/community health nurse, the community as partner, environmental issues, common community problems and vulnerable populations.

Prerequisite: sTa250. students are introduced to basic research methods utilizing a review of the literature in order to become in-formed consumers of nursing research and to incorporate findings into professional practice. Qualitative and quantitative methods, statistical procedures and approaches to the evaluation of nursing practice are addressed.

Taken concurrently with n G450, this course utilizes principles of public health/community health nursing in the provision of healthcare to individuals, families, and aggregate populations. Clinical experi-ences focus on community assessment, public health department services/resources, epidemiological/environmental needs and strategies to address prioritized health needs of selected aggregate populations. a variety of community settings are used.

This course is designed to challenge students in the devel-opment of leadership and management skills. Theories, principles, and practical applications to professional practice are emphasized. an evidenced-based research project is the culminating activity.

This course focuses on health care policy and the organization and financing of health care that influences the access, quality, and affordability of health care at the local, state, national, and iinternational level. The application of health promotion and disease prevention strategies for vulnerable populations will be addressed. The formulation and outcome of policies, the impact of managed care, the nature of delivery systems (both acute care and community-based), and the requisite financial resources will be analyzed.
