Corequisite: Professional Core I. Preservice teachers will apply knowledge and skills of the teaching profession through observation, participation, and instruction working with individuals and small groups of (four - six) children. Students will spend at least 50 hours in pre-Kto design learning environments that enhance student learn ing. Teachers will create a classroom design and identify daily procedures and routines that help them meet students' developmental needs, maximize the utilization of given resources, and contribute to effective management of student behavior in their classrooms.

Corequisite: Professional Core II. Preservice teachers will apply knowledge and skills from the Professional Core IIcourses through observation, participation, and instruction working with individuals and small groups of children in a primary grade classroom. Students will spend at least 55 hours in primary classrooms and participate in a seminar once a week.

Corequisite: Professional Core III. Preservice teachers will apply knowledge and skills from the Professional Core IIIcourses through observation, participation, and instruction in a fourth or fifth grade classroom. Students will spend at least 60 hours in intermediate classrooms working with individuals, small groups, and the whole class. Students will teach sequential, whole-class lessons and participate in a seminar once a week.

Prerequisites: Professional Core IIIand ECEcourses. Documentation of First Aid, CPRand Blood Pathogens training; Corequisite: ECE430. Requires full-time participation in the public schools for a minimum of twelve weeks.

Corequisites: ECE429, Areview and discussion of the skills and knowledge required in the teaching profession. Preparation of a professional portfolio is required. ECE440 (3 hours) Teaching Art, Music and PE This course is designed to acquaint the prospective early childhood education teacher with effective strategies, resources, and materials for teaching art, music, and physical education in grades Pre-K through fifth grade.

Corequisite: Professional Core I. This course will enable the preservice teacher to develop and practice strategies and techniques for teaching, integrating, and assessing the language arts with an emphasis on the writing process.

Corequisite: Professional Core II. This course examines the content, issues, materials, strategies and methods of teaching social studies organized around the ten thematic strands of the NCSS. Athematic, integrated social studies teaching unit is developed using the social studies strands, concepts and decision making.

Corequisite: Professional Core II. This course will provide the preservice teacher with the necessary skills to teach mathematics in the elementary school. Content will include instructional strategies, use of manipulatives, mathematical concepts in the elementary curriculum, problem solving strategies, and traditional and non-traditional approaches to assessment. Observation and practice in ECE428 is required.

Corequisite: Professional Core II. This course will provide the preservice teacher with the necessary knowledge and skills to teach science in the elementary school. Content will cover science skills, selected science content, materials management, science safety, traditional and nontraditional delivery and assessment strategies.

This course explores teaching as a profession utilizing computer-based technology as preparation for GACEI. Documentation of at least 50 hours working with children is required. Open to all majors. Learning Plus fee of $25 applied.
