    This class will examine the foundation of sports, arts, and entertainment event management. Students will understand concept development, site selection, marketing, budgeting, sponsorship and volunteer management for events. The course will address major trends and successful business practices in event management today. Prerequisites: SAEM 101 Course Objectives Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to: (1) Determine the committee and volunteer structure necessary for an event based on its complexity. (2) Research potential venues, rental companies, decorations, and other elements for an event. (3) Interpret best practices of event planners and how to incorporate social responsibiltity into their event plans. (4) Effectively utilize technology tools i,e., software, apps, etc, in order to create event plans and budgets. (5) Execute a complete event plan and present it to the class.

    Students will be able to apply fundamental marketing and promotional concepts to the sports, arts and entertainment industry. Utilizing these theories, students will identify the consumer and product markets and develop appropriate marketing and promotional plans. Prerequisites: SAEM 101. Course Objectives Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to: (1) Demonstrate the ability to find and cite relevant marketing research. (2) Apply research skills to the process of formulating marketing strategies. (3) Demonstrate a basic knowledge of marketing and apply it to SAEM. (4) Create and present a marketing plan.

    The internet and related technology skills are required by most business today - particularly in the realm of marketing. You'll learn the basic language of the online marketing ecosystem including advertising, search engine optimization/management, analytics, content development/deployment and social media. This is a hybrid course, combining online learning with in-person implementation of learning with real clients during our class time. Dual Listed with BMGT 210. Prerequisites: SAEM 202 or BMGT 205. Course Objectives Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to: (1) Apply basic marketing skills including research, segmentation, and strategic development to digital assets in sports, arts, and entertainment business.. (2) Understand, evaluate and implement conclusions from current internet marketing research. (3) Demonstrate a basic knowledge of digitial marketing and apply it to SAEM. (4) Apply best practices in team building and building client relationships to effecively communicating a digital marketing plan. (5) Develop a professional sense of ethical decision making and problem solving in marketing and its related areas.

    This course is a practical guide to creating, selling, organizing, and staging concerts and tours. Topics include: creating the show, being paid, budgeting, promoting and ticketing the show, making money on the road, various types of talent buyers and much more! Prerequisites: SAEM major; Sophomore standing. Course Objectives Upon completion of this course students will be able to: (1) Describe the duties of a concert promoter, including booking the band, securing the venue, hiring stagehands, loaders and security, providing catering requirements, and more. (2) Develop a financial settlement with the artist manager using Excel to determine how much money the performer has earned for their show. (3) Identify the parts included in a performer's concert rider, including what their needs and requirements are for any particular show. (4) Discuss with their fellow class mates why a "booking offer sheet" is prepared and sent to the booking agency before a contract is eventually created. (5) Identify when it's appropriate to use various types of media to promote a concert whether it be radio, newspaper, television or social media. (6) Understand why an "advance sheet" must be used between the production managers of the performer and the artist. They also should be able to identify the items that are discussed and covered in the advancing process. (7) Identify performers' needs and requirements by communicating with sound, light and production companies. (8) Perform an "artist settlement" by using an Excel spreadsheet. (9) Organize the basics of putting on a concert with emphasis on areas such as booking, production, financial and marketing. (10) Analyze case studies in order to determine whether companies made decisions based on ethical best practices or gaining profit.

    This course will focus on several advanced aspects of the concert and music festival industry. It will give students a deeper look into the touring industry of concert promotion, booking bands, duties of a talent agent and band managers and the general knowledge of jobs and opportunities available in the live entertainment industry. Prerequisites: SAEM Major, Sophomore Standing. Course Objectives Upon completion of this course students will be able to: (1) Explain the specific roles of a manager, an agent, and a tour manager and production manager. (2) Interpret the ideas, concepts and actual implementation of producing concerts and festivals on small, medium and large scales. (3) Identify the largest concert promoters in the festival business and what jobs are available in the business. (4) Analyze concert rides and communicate with bands in order to determine their needs. (5) Describe how sound, lights and general band production works with large festivals. (6) Conduct research to gain an understanding of the various scenarios in which performers payments should be made. They will work together by "role playing" the job duties of an agent selling talent to a concert promoter. (7) Analyze case studies, on critical decisions made by booking agents and managers that could affect an artist's career.

    This course will examine performing arts presenting and touring operations including for-profit and nonprofit entities including: theatres, dance ensembles, classical music, and opera. Prerequisites: SAEM/COPA Major. Course Objectives Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to: (1) Apply basic marketing skills including research, segmentation, and strategic development to digital assets in sports, arts, and entertainment business.. (2) Understand, evaluate and implement conclusions from current internet marketing research. (3) Demonstrate a basic knowledge of digitial marketing and apply it to SAEM.     This course provides an overview of amateur athletics and the ideas of amateurism and professional athletics. Pros and cons of both entities will be examined. In addition to introducing administrative concepts that are integral to the successful development of a high performing athletic program. Information and positions other than coaching will be presented. Students will gain real life experience by speaking with athletic personnel evaluating contest and interviewing amateur players: as well as former or modern day professional players. At successful course completion, students will know and understand the intricate business operations within an athletic department and professional sports. Students will become experts on amateur case studies through research and presentation. Course Objectives Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to: (1) Communicate thoughts and ideas both verbally and in writing clearly using basic principles as they relate to the amateur sports industry. (2) Develop and demonstrate a basic knowledge of the technology that is utilized in the Industry. (3) Summarize and define problems and opportunities between student athletes their educational institution and the governing body. (4) Summarize the unique issues facing many student athletes and develop a plan of action to address those issues via written assignments and class presentations. (5) Develop a professional sense of ethical decision making in the amateur sports arena through analyzing case studies.

    This course focuses on the principles and practices of operating Sports, Arts and Entertainment venues and recreational facilities. Emphasis is on the management of such facilities, in addition to security, staffing, operations, budgeting and other related areas. This course also focuses on the technical demands and methods for equipping and operating sports, arts, and entertainment venues. Prerequisites: SAEM major; SAEM 201, SAEM 202. Course Objectives Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to: (1) Analyze different ownership and management structures and how governance relationships impact operational management. (2) Examine the booking process, the entities involved, and the importance of relationships especially as it relates to ethics. Also, analyze management's role in developing and maintaining a safe and secure public assembly venue as a responsibility of al venue management. (3) Create marketing and sales strategies for both a public assembly venue and an event that is booked in the venue. (4) Verify the ancilary revenue sources for an event, and create a pro forma. (5)Synthesize the event planning process and how it is used to produce an exceptional event experience for guests and clients.
