    The Employment Skills Workshops are a series of workshops designed to prepare students for Internships. Through this series, the students will learn Interpersonal Communication and Emotional Intelligence; Writing for your Career; Resume and Cover Letter Preparation; Understanding Employment Paperwork; The Dos and Donts on the Job; Personal Finance Essentials; and Interview Preparation. The workshop series will culminate with an Interview Panel comprised of various industry and business professionals who will conduct mock interviews for the students. The series consists of seven workshops, however, four of the workshops are mandatory and three of them are optional. All students must participate in the mock interview to be completed at the end of the workshop series. Upon completion of the Employment Skills Workshops, the students are then eligible for an internship.

    This course teaches our students the skills necessary to make wise financial choices to attain the financial literacy necessary to establish financial responsibility and sound decision making. Topics covered include income and careers, planning and money management, credit and debt, risk management and insurance, and saving and investing. (3 credits)

    This course builds upon the basic financial decision-making process with emphasis on corporate structures, and develops problem-solving skills unique to financial management. Topics include financial statement analysis, time value of money, bonds, stocks, risk and return, cash flow estimation, capital budgeting, cost of capital, dividends, financial planning and international financing. Financial calculator/spreadsheet software is used in problem solving. Pre-requisites: ACC105. (3 credits)

    This course provides learners insight into the business aspects of healthcare and management strategies. Throughout the course, learners will be exposed to policy and procedure, informatics, organizational hierarchy, and budget management to provide a comprehensive understanding of transitioning from clinician role to an administrative role. Key aspects of successful and safe service delivery, along with sustainability will be explored. Pre-requisites: ACC 220, MGT 105, MGT 205

    This unique business course focuses on the relationships within healthcare organizations and techniques for being an effective leader in this field. Throughout this course, learners will review communication strategies and coaching methods. Discussion will emphasize leading change in the healthcare system, ongoing program and performance evaluation, strategic planning and implementing a plan for quality improvement. Students will participate in 45 hours of a practicum experience focusing on administrative leadership initiatives. Pre-requisites: HCM 305

    HIS 105 (Formerly HI 101) - U.S. History I U.S. History I is a survey course which reviews American history from the pre-Colonial era (1600) to the Civil War era (1865). The course is designed to acquaint the student with the major political, economic, social and cultural developments of these eras with emphasis on the rise of Colonial America and the Constitution, Westward Expansion, the Age of Jackson, Antebellum America and the Civil War era (3 Credits).

    HIS 110 (Formerly HI 102) - U.S. History II In HIS 110, the period from the Civil War to the present is examined in light of the important social, economic, political and cultural events of those years. This survey course highlights America's growing impact on world events and the contribution of various ethnic groups to American civilization. Also examined are the issues of industrial growth, the world wars, and American diplomacy and international relations (3 Credits).

    This course examines the evolution of Petroleum & Natural Gas from the 1st wells drilled by James Miller Williams and Edwin Drake, to the commercial success of John D. Rockefeller and the revolution of shale energy & the Geo-Political implications of global demand for energy. Topics will also consist of more recent developments similar to horizontal drilling, fracturing advancements, and technology advancements. Emphasis will be placed on the influence of energy demands and world markets, discoveries of tight shale formations and development of modern infrastructure.

    HIS 118 (Formerly HI 111) - American Government This is an introductory course that surveys the rise, development, structure, operations and problems of American government. It offers an analysis of the historical and intellectual forces shaping government in America, as well as providing an analytical framework to help the student understand the structure, functions and problems of American federal government (3 Credits).

    HIS 130 (Formerly HI 106) - World History This is a global history course focusing upon the twentieth century. It reviews the major political, social and economic events that have shaped the history of the modern world, including American, European, Asian, Middle Eastern and Latin American civilizations. Emphasis is placed upon the two world wars, the breakup of the European colonial empires, the rise of Third World nationalism and the pressing global issues that now threaten life on our planet (e.g. famine, overpopulation, unequal distribution of resources, etc.) Prerequisite: ENG105. (3 Credits).
