This is an evening program designed for those who, with general office skills, are seeking specialization. The CMB program focuses on the rules and regulations of the insurance industry, medical terminology, medical coding principles, MediSoft, a medical accounting software package, Microsoft Word and Excel. Successful completion of this program will provide graduates with the opportunity to obtain employment in diverse medical office environments. Medical Transcription - Independent Study is a self-directed program designed specifically for those individuals who wish to change their career direction but are unable to attend classes during the traditional college hours. Students, enrolling in the Independent Study class, must meet with the instructor two times per week for three to four hours each meeting time during a 15-week period and must fulfill weekly requirements as scheduled by the instructor. The program includes medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and completion of medical reports and summaries using a transcription machine and computer. Graduates are well prepared to find employment in a doctor's office, hospital, clinic, or at home as a self-employed medical transcriptionist. Prerequisities are keyboarding at 40 words per minute, knowledge of word processing and access to a home computer is required. EKG (Electrocardiogram) Technician is a health care profession that will continue to grow and be in high demand. EKG Technicians work in doctors' offices, hospitals, clinics, and other health care facilities and organizations. EKG Techs also work for insurance companies to establish health and life insurance policies. EKG Technicians are responsible for performing electrocardiogram tests in order to monitor and record electrical impulses transmitted to the heart. Tests include basic EkGs, holter monitoring, 12 lead placement, and stress tests.
