    The structure and nature of the nursing profession as it relates to today¿s society is presented, including: historical perspectives, ethical and legal responsibilities, employment preparation, career opportunities, educational pathways and legislation affecting nursing practice. The content of the pharmacology section of this course is designed to expose the student to an overall view of drugs used for treatment of clinical disorders of patients from all age groups. The course is designed to augment pharmacology knowledge acquired in nursing theory courses and to assist the student in safe clinical practice regarding medication issues. Pertinent information about specific drugs or drug classifications will be discussed, including dosage, interactions, and nursing implications. The responsibility of the nurse in the application of drug therapy will be stressed. (Usually offered Spring semester.) Restricted to Nursing students. Prerequisite: NUR 211 Co requisite: NUR 212

    An intensive one week elective that provides reality-oriented nursing practice based upon knowledge and skills accrued by nursing students during previous semesters. This elective course is intended to permit the nursing students the curricular freedom to identify their own unique and personal learning needs and provide experiences to meet thsese needs under the guidance of a clinical nursing instructor in an acute care hospital setting. This course offers the student the unique exposure to a full day¿s shift of clinical experience for a week¿s time; thereby allowing for continuity and intesity of clinical learning not provided in other nursing clinical laboratory courses. (Offered interim session, in January.) Restricted to Nursing students. Prerequisite: NUR 211

    An intensive one week elective that provides reality-oriented nursing practice in the intra-operative phase of peri-operative nursing based upon knowledge and skills accrued by nursing students during previous semesters. This elective course is intended to familiarize the nursing students with the multiple roles of the RN in the operating room, provide experiences in the operating room utilizing acquired skills under the guidance of a clinical nursing instructor and preceptor in the intra-operative hospital setting. This course offers the student the unique exposure to a full day¿s shift of clinical surgical experience for a week¿s time; thereby allowing for continuity and intensity of clinical learning not provided in other nursing clinical laboratory courses. (Usually offered Interim session, in January.) Restricted to Nursing students who have successfully completed NUR 211). Prerequisite: NUR 211E, C, and L

    Designed to expand the nurse¿s knowledge, skills and techniques in eliciting a health history; performing physical assessments; recognizing normal and deviations from normal ; and recording data accurately, concisely and clearly. The emphasis is on the skill of performing a systematic health assessment of adults and children, incorporating developmental principles and socio-cultural aspects. (Usually offered fall semester.) Restricted to nursing students or graduate nurse. Prerequisites: BIO 214E, BIO 214L, NUR 112, or graduate from RN Program.

    Basic Concepts of Normal and Therapeutic Nutrition is designed to provide the student with foundational knowledge for understanding the vital association between nutrition and health. It is an introductory course which may be transferred for those who wish to pursue an advanced degree. The concepts of normal, therapeutic, and applied nutrition are presented.     Designed to provide ¿touch typing¿ competency skills for the nonprofessional keyboarding student. Instruction in basic alphanumeric keyboarding techniques on the microcomputer. Intended for students seeking data entry skills on the personal computer; keyboard mastery and accuracy will be the primary emphasis of this course. Geared for those at any level of computer training who wish to learn touch-keyboarding skills. (Usually offered Fall and Spring semesters.)

    Designed for the nonprofessional keyboarding student who has no prior keyboarding experience. Basic instruction in alphanumeric keyboarding techniques on the microcomputer for the student seeking data entry skills will be taught to provide "touch typing" competency. In addition, word processing software will be used to format and print basic business correspondence; simple reports will be introduced. (Usually offered Fall and Spring semesters.)
